VCU’s powerful forward, Mo Alie-Cox, demands attention with his performance in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off. Alie-Cox sat out during the 2012-2013 season after the NCAA deemed him a partial qualifier, but this season he’s not only on the court, he’s on fire. Fans knew they could expect great things from Alie-Cox, but the incredible leadership and power he has revealed this early in this season is eye opening. With his 7 foot 1 wingspan, Alie-Cox is an incredible rebounder. He started the season thriving with defensive rebounds and looked as though he was a stronger asset on that side of the court. As the season progresses and in Puerto Rico especially, fans saw him excelling in offensive rebounds as well. This may be due to the poor shooting plague that has taken over VCU recently, but regardless, he is making a critical difference on offense. VCU Forward Mo Alie-Cox One of Alie-Cox’s best talents is his ability to move quickly. Many players his size struggle with speed because they primarily focus on muscle and height. Alie-Cox has the exact talent that Coach Shaka Smart looks for as he is quick minded and has the quick agilities to follow. His success on the court shows how well he plays under Coach Smart and how perfect he is for Smart’s havoc plays. As a non-starter Alie-Cox is receiving more and more playing time as he keeps delivering. One of the most eye-catching actions Alie-Cox has is the way he uses his body. Obviously, he uses his size to his advantage when it comes to blocking and rebounding. Not so obviously, Alie-Cox uses his size while running the court with his speed and quick reactions. As his time in the game increases, fans can only wait in excitement to see what more he has to offer the team. VCU forward Mo Alie-Cox (Photo Credit: P. Coach Smart is one to learn from each game and to focus on weaknesses in order to grow. The Rams come back home to play Northeastern on Friday, at 7:00 Eastern Time.
