Story: The Tennessee Volunteers dominated the Mississippi State Bulldogs by a score of 69-53 in Nashville on Thursday. This is the Vols ninth win out of their last 10 games.
Tennessee (20-11, 11-7 SEC) started the game on a 12-2 run against the Bulldogs with junior guard Jordan McRae leading the Volunteers with 17 points. Junior guard Trae Golden also chipped in 15 points.
With the game in hand, McRae threw down a nasty 360-spin dunk that’s sure to be a candidate for ESPN SportsCenter’s “Top 10″.
Tennessee redshirt freshman guard Quentin Chievous had a career high 10 points while sophomore power forward Jarnell Stokes also contributed with 10 points and seven assists.
The leading scorer for Mississippi State was freshman guard Craig Sword, who had 19 points and three rebounds.
With this win, Tennessee increases its chances of getting a bid for the NCAA Tournament. Bracketologists such as ESPN’s Joe Lunardi have Tennessee as a bubble team.
When asked about Tennessee’s chances of getting into the NCAA tournament, Mississippi State head Coach Rick Ray said the Vols didn’t need this win to validate that they’re an NCAA Tournament team.
The Volunteers will battle Alabama on Friday at 3:30 p.m. ET.
