Wayne Blackshear is one of the more highly regarded players to sign with the University of Louisville in the last decade. Blackshear was a five star prospect coming out of high school and is one of just six McDonalds All Americans to commit to Rick Pitino at Louisville. As a true freshman in 2011-12 Blackshear was injured for most of the season after having two shoulder surgeries. He played briefly towards the end of the season and showed flashes of just how good he can be. As a sophomore, Blackshear had a solid season and started for the majority of the year. When you look at the small forward position last year for Louisville most people think of Luke Hancock’s impressive play down the stretch and in the Final Four. Hancock will be a huge part of Louisville’s team in 2013-14, but that doesn’t mean you should forget about Wayne Blackshear. During a recent radio interview, Rick Pitino said Blackshear is one of the few players who has really stood out and shown improvement this sum...

It was announced during the red carpet ESPY preshow that Rick Pitino has won the 2013 ESPY for “Best Coach/Manager.” Pitino will not be in Los Angeles to accept the award, but Russ Smith, Wayne Blackshear and Peyton Siva will be on hand to accept it for him. This means Russ Smith will be at a podium with a microphone on national television. You’re not going to want to miss...

Russ Smith & Peyton Siva Hanging With DeMarcus Cousins & John Wall In L.A.

Peyton Siva and Russ Smith arrived in Los Angeles yesterday afternoon for Wednesday’s 2013 ESPY Awards. Rick Pitino is nominated for “Coach of the Year” and if he is to win it, Siva, Smith and Wayne Blackshear will accept the award on his behalf. Siva and Smith, arguably the best backcourt duo in Louisville history, were at the ESPY pre-party on Tuesday night hanging out with...

Pitino & Staff Targeting Mutiple Front Court Prospects In 2014

During the first evaluation period of the summer, Rick Pitino and his assistant coaches were all on the road getting a closer look at some of the top prospects from the 2014 and 2015 classes. It’s been evident for the past few weeks that with the backcourt set in 2014, Pitino and staff will focus on front-court players from here on out. When looking at the scholarship situation...

Video: Rick Pitino Wins ESPY For “Best Coach/Manager” On The Red Carpet

Although you didn’t see it or hear about it during the actual awards ceremony, Louisville head basketball coach Rick Pitino won an ESPY Award last night for “Best Coach/Manager.” I understand that if every award was announced, the show would last entirely too long. With that said, I think Coach/Manager of the year is an award that deserves a little attention. This award wasn’t...

Stephan Van Treese Will Have A Bigger Role Than Most Expect Next Season

If you polled the Louisville fan base and asked which two post players they’d like to see Rick Pitino use in the starting lineup next season, I think most would probably go with the duo of Montrezl Harrell and Chane Behanan. Some may suggest Mangok Mathiang at the center because of his height. I doubt you’d hear many throw fifth year senior Stephan Van Treese’s name in the...

Four Star Forward Has Louisville In His Top Eight

According to Paul Biancardi of ESPN, Kelly Oubre, a four star forward from Houston, TX., has trimmed his list to eight schools and Louisville has made the cut. The 6-foot-7 prospect is also still considering Kentucky, Kansas, Florida, Georgetown, Oregon, Connecticut and UNLV. Surprisingly, Oubre wasn’t one of the front-court prospects that received attention from the Louisville...

Eastern Kentucky Combo Guard Receiving Interest From Louisville

Eastern Kentucky doesn’t usually produce a lot elite level college basketball prospect. However, there are a few talented players from the Kentucky Mountains in the 2014 & 2015 classes that have offers from some pretty impressive schools. Rick Pitino and the Louisville staff haven’t extended a scholarship offer, but they appear to be showing some interest in combo guard Cameron...

The First Louisville Football Depth Chart Of The 2013 Season

With just 47 days until the 2013 college football season starts, the official Louisville football media guide has been released, which means we get our first glimpse at the depth chart. One of the many things that I’ve learned after watching Charlie Strong run a program over the past few years is that the initial depth charts aren’t always accurate. In no way am I calling Charlie...

Louisville Football Depth Chart: Surprises, concerns & reasons for excitement

The 2013 Louisville football team is loaded with talent. Never has it been more apparent than in the last two weeks, when it seems almost as a daily occurrence that another Cardinal is announced as part of a national award-watch list (most recently DeVante Parker to the Biletnikoff and Preston Brown to the Lambardi). More reason for excitement was given to Louisville fans Tuesday...

Dominique Brown & Senorise Perry Named To The Doak Walker Award Watch List

The 2013 College Football Season is just 45 days away, which means the preseason award watch lists are being released daily. Louisville has already had multiple players named to numerous different watch lists and on Thursday morning two more Cardinals received the preseason honor. Louisville running backs Senorise Perry and Dominique Brown have been added to the initial watch list...

Louisville Football Was Mentioned Quite A Bit At Yesterday’s SEC Media Day

The circus that is the SEC Media Day got underway on Tuesday morning in Hoover, AL. The annual event is a time for the college football snobs of the world and the media that covers them to gather and display arrogance as a whole. In all seriousness, I recognize how dominant the Southeastern Conference has been on gridiron, particularly over the last decade. With that said, I’m...

Preston Brown is taking the lead

Senior linebacker Preston Brown has become one of the key leaders for the 2013 Cardinals. The Cincinnati native recently visited with Cardinal Authority to discuss the upcoming season.
