Post-game thoughts, after the Gophers – Illini Insanity.
Between consoling myself over another hard to believe lose from ahead loss and having flashbacks to Frank Williams knocking in a last second floater to end the Gophers NCAA tournament hopes, a Minnesota team was in a must win situation, and did win, in overtime no less. I can’t begin to explain all the twists [...]

Gophers vs. Illini starts key three game stretch
A big game on a cold January Saturday night. What could be better?
This space is usually reserved for disclaimers that there is no such thing as a must win game in January and platitudes about how a season isn't over until it's over because of the automatic NCAA tournament bid awarded at the end of the Big Ten Tournament. Nope, I'm not going to do it this time. This...

Illini Most Super Sophomore: Joseph Bertrand!
What a loaded and deep sophomore class the Illini were to have this year! McDonald’s All-American Jereme Richmond, consensus top 90 recruit Crandall Head, 7-footer/future NBA big Meyers Leonard and overlooked Sterling, Illinois product Joseph Bertrand.
Well, look at where we are today: Richmond caused as many headaches and issues as possible before leaving school after one...

Univ Of Illinois Guard Crandall Head To Transfer: Illini Run Shooting Offense. He’s Not A Shooter
Fans of the University of Illinois men’s basketball team (and Big Ten basketball) probably remember the name Luther Head. He was an Associated Press Second-Team All-American, member of the Big Ten All-Tournament team, selected to the NCAA Final Four All-Tournament Team, and was 5th in the conference in scoring (15.9) as a senior in [...]

Big Ten First Look: Illinois
This was the first item on a Google Image Search for Bruce WeberPerhaps no team in the Big 10 was hollowed out in the off-season to the degree of the Fighting Illini. Between long-time starters Demetri McCamey, Mike Davis, and Mike Tisdale, senior role player Bill Cole, and one-and-done Jereme Richmond (who, painfully, went undrafted), lose four starters, five of their top seven...

2011-2012 ITH Season Preview: Illinois Fighting Illini
With the college basketball season inching closer, we’ll be taking a long look at the conference at large as well as Indiana’s roster over the next few weeks. Today, we continue our team previews with a look at the Illinois Fighting Illini.
Underwhelming. That one word best describes Illinois’ 2010-2011 season.
Despite returning four seniors and adding a McDonald’...

Illinois Basketball to Scrimmage West Virginia at NATO Air Force Base in Italy
It is impressive that the Michigan State Spartans and North Carolina Tar Heels will take on each other in college basketball aboard the deck of an aircraft carrier. But don’t sell the Illinois Fighting Illini and West Virginia Mountaineers short. The two basketball teams will visit Aviano Air Base on Aug. 17 during their upcoming Italian tours.
While at the base, the Illini...

Jereme Richmond Declares For NBA Draft
Welp, I didn’t see this one coming (although I guess I should have).
Just last week, Illinois coach Bruce Weber said that he expected suspended forward Jereme Richmond to return to the team next season. Â Today, those words were proven wrong.
In a sudden turn of events, Richmond announced that he would be leaving Illinois after one season and declaring for the NBA Draft. Â...

No. 21 Illinois 73, No. 24 Gonzaga 61
Most Illini fans scoffed when Gonzaga coach Mark Few compared this year’s team to the 2005Â Final Four team.
After Saturday’s 73-61 victory over the Bulldogs, there may be a few more believers joining Few’s bandwagon. Illinois (8-1) drilled nine three-pointers in the second half, with senior Mike Tisdale making three in the first five minutes to break open a double...

Illinois’ Jordan Problem Didn’t End With Transfer
When young Jeffrey Jordan decided to transfer from the University of Illinois, it seemed as though that was the end of the strange saga of the oldest son of the greatest basketball player of all time, Michael Jordan.
Not even close. Not even close by a damn sight.
There has been a lot of tension surrounding the program — something that insiders really only knew about the...

The 2009-2010 University of Illinois Men’s Basketball Team: A Season to Forget
Did Illinois’ 77-71 home loss to Dayton in the NIT quarterfinals surprise you? It shouldn’t have….. Illinois (21-15) head coach Bruce Weber said it best after the game, “They just kind of just kicked us in the face right from the start.” Ya think? It was another chapter in the book titled, “The 2009-2010 University of Illinois Men’s Basketball...
