OLB Brian Cushing was the first of the big three (Cushing, Maualuga and Matthews) to be selected, 15th overall by Houston. The Texans needed some help on the defensive side of the ball as the team ranked 27th in the NFL in points allowed per game (24.6), and 22nd in yards per game (336.6) in 2008. Houston makes Brian Cushing the first USC linebacker selected
Get used to hearing Goodell introducing USC linebackers today.
With the 15th pick, the Houston Texans made the “North Jersey Meathead”, Brain Cushing, the first of three USC linebackers who could be picked in the first round.

Read into this how you will, but I pointed out on Saturday that USC/Texans linebacker Brian Cushing appeared to have an outbreak of chicken pox at Radio City Music Hall on draft day.He wasn't the only one. Mark Sanchez also appeared to have some sort of pox-like scars on his handsome face.

Former Arizona State quarterback Rudy Carpenter wasn’t drafted on Saturday or Sunday, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be in an NFL camp this summer. Carpenter signed a free-agent deal with the Dallas Cowboys on Monday.
