Zach Ertz is about to burst onto the NFL landscape and assert his talents in a fast-growing field of dominant tight ends.Zach Ertz is listed at 6'6" and 249 pounds. He was a junior tight end for the Stanford Cardinals.Zach gradually increased his production as a Cardinal, from 190 yards as a freshman, 349 as a sophomore, and jumped up to 898 yards as a junior in 2012. He accounted for six touchdowns and had three games with over 100 yards receiving. He was a John Mackey Award semifinalist. He was also a consensus All-American and an All-Pac-12 first-team selection.StrengthsErtz is a smart football player and is best described as a smaller version of Rob Gronkowski or Jimmy Graham. He runs routes well, and routinely splits the seam for big catches. He has good hands and can catch the ball even when it is not thrown right at him.WeaknessHe will probably struggle in the blocking game even though he did fairly well at Stanford. He will need to add a few more pounds of muscle to handle some of the rushers he will face in the NFL.Potential Landing SpotI can see Zach Ertz drawing a day one pick. He has huge potential for a team like Detroit that needs a complement to Megatron, or even Arizona now that they appear to have a quarterback on board.NFL ComparisonAs already mentioned, Ertz looks a lot like Gronkowski and Graham going up the seam, or even a hybrid like Aaron Hernandez.Zach Ertz is clearly worthy of the top spot at tight end in this Draft and a round one pick. If he does not go as early as I am projecting, I could see a team like the Patriots switching gears and plucking him instead of a badly-needed defensive back.
