Halftime notes as Penn State finds itself up 27-24 in a shootout on the road at night:
-- Northwestern is getting more pressure on the quarterback than Penn State is (except for the Wildcats' second drive of the half). That is not good, folks.
-- More special teams woes as Chaz Powell's fumble on opening kickoff not only cost Penn State a possession, it gave Northwestern an extra possession. A double whammy, and it means Northwestern will have the ball to start the second half, just like it in effect had it to start the first half. That's tough when you're going up against a potent offense.
-- After three years, could this be Devon Smith's breakthrough game?
-- Why no review of Curtis Drake's would-be touchdown reception at the sideline. Absurd, and there was plenty of time.
-- Just asking: Can Penn State's defense stop one team one time in the red zone this year. Might be needed in the second half.
-- One thing is for certain: Penn State's defense will need to pick it up.
