High FivesMiami Miami deserves kudos for getting out in front of its NCAA investigation by self-imposing a bowl ban for this season. Its a wise decision because it shows the NCAA it takes the allegations seriously. But since the Hurricanes likely were headed to a mediocre bowl with a small turnout, it was a good time to miss a bowl than perhaps next year or the season after, assuming the NCAA was going to ban it for a year. Michael Rocco, Virginia So much for being a liability. Rocco completed 22 of 31 pass attempts for 238 yards and a touchdown in helping Virginia to a surprising 14-13 win at Florida State. Rocco and the Cavaliers play Virginia Tech at home this coming Saturday for the ACCs Coastal Division title. He is playing with a lot of confidence. Terrell Manning, N.C. State The linebacker registered eight tackles, forced a fumble and recovered two fumbles in helping the Wolfpack to a surprising blowout of then-seventh ranked Clemson, 37-13. Mannings play helped ignite a unit that forced four turnovers and limited Clemson to zero touchdowns for the first 59 minutes of the contest. Tevin Washington, Georgia Tech The junior quarterback completed 6 of 13 pass attempts for 185 yards and ran the ball 17 times for 136 yards and a touchdown in leading the Yellow Jackets to a 38-31 win at Duke. Washington is playing well again, especially finding his passing game that was missing for quite some time. David Amerson, N.C. State The long and athletic cornerback picked off his 11th pass of the season, tying the ACC single-season record, previously set by UNCs Dre Bly in 1996. Amersons interception against Clemson came in the end zone, once again keeping the high-flying Tigers from scoring. Low FivesDabo Swinney, Clemson Swinney was embarrassed by his teams play and he said they were immature in a 37-13 loss at N.C. State. But with so much on the line it was his responsibility to get the Tigers ready to play a very beatable Wolfpack. If they had just shown up theyd be No. 4 in the country instead of No. 17. Randy Edsall, Maryland The Terrapins coach cant be pleased with how things have regressed around his program. The Terps have now lost six consecutive games by double figures and the program has become a mess. Saturdays 31-10 loss at Wake Forest was just more of the same. Thomas Moore, North Carolina The Tar Heels field goal kicker missed both of his kicks in a 24-21 loss at Virginia Tech last Thursday night. Moore has missed 4 of 6 attempts this season filling in for injured regular kicker Casey Barth. Jimbo Fisher, Florida State Fisher and his staff mismanaged the last minute-plus of the clock in a 14-13 loss at home to Virginia. The play calling, the use of time, everything just wasnt what the Seminoles needed to have a better chance at beating Virginia. Notre Dame No, the Fighting Irish are not in the ACC, but with the Irishs 16-14 home win over Boston College, it completed a stretch of three wins over ACC teams in its last three games. Dame won at Wake Forest and Maryland before beating BC this past weekend. Player of the WeekTanner Price, Wake Forest The sophomore signal caller was sensational in leading the Demon Deacons to a 31-10 rout of visiting Maryland. The lefthander completed 20 of 32 pass attempts for 320 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. In the process, Wake won its sixth game and its now bowl eligible.
