Blackshire is the fifth Alabama football player to enter the transfer portal since last weekend, headlined by the loss of running back Roydell Williams. Blacksire is the second linebacker to enter the portal today, with New Mexico State Aggies Jayhvion Gipson also declaring his intent to leave his current program.
Kendrick Blackshire joined the Crimson Tide as a four-star recruit in 2021, per 247Sports. He played sparingly as a true freshman, registering only three tackles in nine games. He recorded his first tackle against the Miami Hurricanes. As a sophomore, Blackshire continued contributing on special teams, seeing little action at linebacker. He missed the final five games of the regular season with injury but returned for the Sugar Bowl. He finished his sophomore season with six tackles and one TFL.
The Duncanville, Texas product posted career numbers in 2023, albeit with limited production. Blackshire finished the season with 16 tackles, one TFL, a sack, and a fumble recovery. His best game of the season came in early September against Middle Tennessee State, registering five tackles, a forced fumble, and a recovery.
Blackshire joins safety Jake Pope , wide receiver Hayden Neighbors, running back Roydell WIlliams, and tight end Jax Porter as the most recent additions to the transfer portal from Alabama. Williams remains one of the most significant losses, rushing for 560 yards and five touchdowns in 14 games. They also lost receiver Malik Benson to Florida State. However, they added cornerback Damani Jackson from USC and offensive tackle Naquil Bertrand from Texas A&M. Jackson had 33 tackles last season for the Trojans.
