If there's any question how vital overall team balance is to success on the college football field, last season's final UPS Team Performance Index may have somehow quantified it. Alabama and LSU, the two schools which played in January's BCS national title game and finished 1-2 in the last AP Top 25 poll, also wound up topping the UPS TPI when all was said and done. But while soon-to-be playoffs and weekly polls are meant to primarily - and somewhat mythically - measure overall strength, the index's main purpose is to measure a consistency of excellence across all facets of team performance: offense, defense and special teams. Tide coach Nick Saban went so far as to make an analogy during media day earlier this month about his program resembling a constant thermostat, "which creates the same temperature all the time, with consistency that you can count on." Whether that's on a season-by-season or unit-by-unit basis, Saban and Co. are hitting all the ...

Nick Saban doesn't like your question, Heather Cox (Video)

After Saturday night's rout of Michigan, Alabama head coach Nick Saban gave the usual post game interview with ESPN's Heather Cox. Cox decided to ask him a question about Alabama's running back by the committee and it appears that Saban didn't appreciate that questions too much: (Courtesy of Ride The Pine)

30 Teams in 30 Days: #2 The University of Alabama Crimson Tide

Head Coach: Nick Saban (55-11 , entering 6th season) The Story: The receptor of one of the biggest breaks in recent college football memory, Alabama worked their way into a rematch against the only team they lost to in the regular season. Alabama just too tough for Wolverines

Nick Saban didn't have a spectacular game plan Saturday night. He didn't need one. Saban's Crimson Tide dominated the line on both sides of the ball, turned Denard Robinson into a pocket passer and walked out of Dallas with an easy 41-14 victory over Michigan in the Cowboys Classic. Alabama scored the game's first 31 points, thanks to an offensive line that ripped...

Media hero-worship shifts to Nick Saban and Alabama

Now that the media has fed on the Penn State scandal for the past year after building up Joe Paterno as a saint on the sidelines for the past 40 years, some are naturally moving on to other subjects to deify. With Alabama coming off of two National Championships in the past three years, it shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that Nick Saban is the next coach to get glowing coverage...

#3 Alabama Crimson Tide

Alabama The Alabama Crimson Tide are the defending national champions and there are two words to describe them this season … Nick Saban. Saban has established himself as THE coach in college football and he does so by reloading yearly. The Tide return junior quarterback A.J. McCarron, who didn’t have a spectacular season last year, but when you play quarterback on a Nick Saban...

Michigan, Alabama aiming to make big statements

The Michigan Wolverines have reclaimed their confidence, something Alabama did shortly after Nick Saban landed in Tuscaloosa and started winning national titles. The eighth-ranked Wolverines have already earned some preseason acclaim going into Saturday night's opening showdown with the similarly pedigreed and second-ranked Crimson Tide at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas...
