Christion Jones' spectacular performance in Alabama's debut didn't come as a surprise to his teammates. To the rest of the country, maybe. Just not to the guys who see the top-ranked Crimson Tide's receiver/return man in action daily in practice. ''I've seen it in him,'' Alabama left tackle Cyrus Kouandjio said. ''He's been working really hard. You can see how hard he's been working and it's starting to come out. ''I'm not surprised about Christion's performance because he's been working really hard. We all see it. We're not blind.'' Jones opened plenty of other eyes, though. He returned Virginia Tech's first punt 72 yards for a touchdown and added a 94-yard kickoff return in the second quarter, with a 38-yard TD catch for good measure. His performance helped turn an otherwise mostly mundane offensive debut for the Tide into a 35-10 rout of the Hokies in Atlanta's Georgia Dome. Jones...

Alabama Football: ‘Winning disappointment’ for offense

Football perfectionists, Alabama fans and critics seemed to agree that something was lacking in Alabama’s first performance of the season. For friends who were watching the game at separate locations, group texts- or at least mine- went like this; “Our O line needs some work y’all. I mean damn.” “Yuuuuuup” “Worst O line since Shula” “Scary” Perhaps the ‘worst...

Alabama’s Christion Jones Takes 96-Yard Kickoff To The House, Leads To Perfect Frank Beamer Facepalm

Christion Jones got the Alabama offense off to a good start to the 2013 season by returning a punt to the house, and just a quarter later he did it again, but this time on a kickoff. Jones took a 94-yard kickoff return down the left side of the field and somehow managed to escape two ‘should have been’ tackles. The very poor tackling lead to Frank Beamer giving us one of the...

Christion Jones' highlight night keys Tide over Hokies

ATLANTA Great teams find creative ways to win. And while Alabamas 35-10 victory over Virginia Tech was not the typical ground-control exhibition that were hallmarks of the Crimson Tides last three national championships, Alabama did score two offensive touchdowns, one defensive touchdown and two touchdowns on special teams. Three of those scores came from one player, junior receiver...

Video: Christion Jones helps Alabama roll over Virginia Tech 35-10

Alabama rolled over Virginia Tech in a 35-10 show-of-strength.  Quarterback AJ McCarron did not have the best day with his 10-for-24 outing. McCarron did play a small role in the dynamic day of Christion Jones. Jones caught a touchdown from his quarterback and returned both a kickoff and a punt for scores. A Fine Christion Jones Leads Win

Offense. Defense. Special teams. It takes all three, and Alabama showed all three in a 35-10 win over Virginia Tech to open the 2013 season at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. The number one ranked Crimson Tide was particularly effective in the kicking game, and specifically touchdown returns by Christion Jones.

Jones' two TDs lead Bama in rout

Christion Jones became the first Alabama player since at least the 1940s to have two returns for touchdowns, Vinnie Sunseri brought back an interception for another TD, and the top-ranked Crimson Tide overcame a sluggish offensive performance to beat Virginia Tech 35-10 on Saturday. Jones scored on a 72-yard punt return less than 2 minutes into the game, then scooted loose on a...

Hokies fall to Christion Jones and the Crimson Tide

None the less, it was Hokies’ defense against the Alabama Crimson Tide offense in the first game of the season. Although Virginia Tech’s defense had their fair share of broken up passes and loss of yards, Alabama’s offense didn’t help the matter much either, A.J. McCarron and crew dominated every part of the field. Virginia Tech: Chick-Fil-A Game. Despite how good the VA...

Alabama returns first punt for a TD

So this is why Urban Meyer was practicing his two-point conversions earlier today. It's to prepare for any potential meeting with Alabama in a bowl game later this season. On Alabama's first touch of the 2013 season -- a punt return against Virginia Tech -- Christion Jones did this: Pray for Virginia Tech. Pray for college football.

Six Tiders Earn Player Of Week

If you are surprised that an offensive lineman was one of those selected for Player of the Week honors by the Alabama football coaching staff, raise your hand? All of you got Christion Jones and most of you should have picked out another one or more players honored by the Bama staff following the Tide’s 35-10 win over Virginia Tech in the season-opening game in Atlanta Saturday.

Alabama Crimson Tide begin quest for three straight titles

The Alabama Crimson Tide are trying to do something no one has ever done in college football- win three straight national titles. They looked the part in opening week, crushing Virginia tech 35-10. Special teams falter, VaTech loses to Bama 35-10

There was nothing special about Virginia Tech's special teams in the season opener. In fact, they were downright wretched. Christion Jones became the first Alabama player since at least the 1940s to have two returns for touchdowns, Vinnie Sunseri brought back an interception for another TD, and the top-ranked Crimson Tide overcame a rather dismal offensive performance to beat...

The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly: What We Learned About Alabama vs. Virginia Tech

First up to give it a try--Virginia Tech. Early in the game it didn't look to go for VT Head...
