Week Six record: 3-2.  Overall my record stands at 48-7 or 87%.  My best pick last week was the Ohio State over Northwestern game..I said OSU would win 45-17…they won 40-30.  My worst pick was Penn State beating Indiana 38-24….when the Hoosiers actually won 44-24. Indiana-44  Penn State-24….MISS Bobby Richardson (Photo Credit: Pat Lovell-USA TODAY Sports) Congrats to the Hoosiers for their first ever victory over the Nittany Lions.  The win marked the first time Indiana has won a conference opening game since they opened Big Ten play in 2000 vs Iowa.  IU QB Nate Sudfield threw for 321 and two TD’s and PSU QB Christian Hackenberg wasn’t exactly sitting on the dock of the bay either…he was 30 of 55 for 340 with three TD passes as there was almost 900 yards of total offense in this one.  The Hoosiers were clinging to a 4 point lead until early in the final quarter when they erupted for three TD’s in just under three minutes…that was all she wrote. Read the full game recap here: Penn State loses to Indiana for the first time Nebraska-39  Illinois-19….CORRECT Just when you thought you could write off the Corn because they refuse to play defense, they actually play a little defense.  There were a couple of drives that the Fighting Illini had that could’ve put them back in the game had they scored…but Nebraska actually stopped them.  Corn HB Ameer Abdullah rushed for a career high 225 yards to help the Husker offense.  Taylor Martinez missed yet another game and was replaced by Tommy Armstrong.  Armstrong finished 8 of 13 for 135 yards and two TD’s and 18 yards rushing.  If this Nebraska team can pay some defense down the road, they might find themselves in the hunt…but let’s not get ahead ourselves here…they did just beat Illinois. Michigan State-26  Iowa-14….MISS How about those Spartans?…they may have found themselves a QB…Connor Cook throws for 277 and two TD’s?..don’t forget about that wild and crazy unpredictable coach of theirs…that Mark Dantonio.  He pulled off another brilliant fake punt that kept a drive going.  They had a six point lead and going for it there enabled them to drive another few yards to kick a FG and put them up 9 early in the 4th quarter.  All this being said, the Spartan defense allowed just 23 yards on the ground…pretty amazing seeing how that is all Iowa can do.  Michigan State just put themselves in the front seat for the Legends title…Northwestern is still in the drivers’ seat…but MSU is at least riding shotgun. Read the full game recap here: Spartans top Iowa in Big Ten opener Michigan-42  Minnesota-13….CORRECT Devin Gardner was turnover free on Saturday…that was the key to the Michigan W.  I have to give some credit to the Gopher coaching staff in Jerry Kills absence.  Specifically, HB coach Rob Reeves.  He was calling the plays for the Gophers on Saturday…and he put the Gophers in a position to be in the ball game…at least in the first half.  They ran the ball, ate some clock and kept Michigan off the scoreboard.  Gardner was incredibly efficient as he finished 13-17 for 235 and a TD pass.  I think maybe since Michigan doesn’t throw to any WR’s other than Gallon, maybe they should move Funchess to WR and have Butt and Williams split time at TE.  Either way. this team has a lot of work to do to unseat MSU and NW from the front seat. Read the full game recap here: Michigan improves to 5-0 with win over Gophers Ohio State-40  Northwestern-30….CORRECT Carlos Hyde (Photo by: Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images) I wish they had a better angle to show what happened on that 4th down play late in the game….where was the view from that overhead camera ABC uses on its Saturday night games?  It looked to me that Colter got at least the yard he needed to keep the drive going…it was a fun game to watch and both teams played well…but the Buckeye fans were sounding off about how they hadn’t played well in the first half.  None of them gave any credit to the Wildcats, they were in a close game because they were not executing…it had nothing to do with their opponents.  But that’s the way it is with OSU fans…nobody can hang with them, the reason teams are close to them or beat OSU is because the Bucks don’t execute.
