Arkansas State is having to look for a new head football coach now that Guz Malzahn bolted to Auburn after just one year in Jonesboro. Unlike snakebitte-n Tennessee, there is actually someone who actually is interested in coaching the Red Wolves. The bad news for Arkansas St.? It's Bobby Petrino. Of course if this story is true, the question is how Arkansas State gets out of the awkward dilemma of turning Petrino down while finding a replacement for Malzahn that can make supporters forget Petrino was interested in the job in the first place.

Thompson takes over for Gus Malzahn, who's leaving Arkansas State for Auburn after one season. Malzahn led the Red Wolves to a 9-3 record and a Sun Belt Conference championship.

JONESBORO (12/5/12) – Arkansas State Director of Athletics Terry Mohajir announced Wednesday that current defensive coordinator John Thompson has been named the Red Wolves’ interim head football coach, effective immediately.
