Notre Dame Coach Brian Kelly made comments slighting Michigan today. They were on par with the derisive comments made by Wolverines Coach  Brady Hoke in May. It wasn’t a direct retaliation by any means. However, on paper it looks like a measured response to Hoke shooting his mouth off four months ago. The last scheduled Notre Dame visit to Michigan Stadium is Saturday night. It will now get more media attention than it was already receiving. ”I really haven’t seen it as one of those historic, traditional Notre Dame rivalries,” Brian Kelly said during conference call. ”I’ve seen it as just one of those great football games that Notre Dame has played. For me, I’ve been in Michigan a long time, I’ve always felt the Notre Dame-Michigan game was a big regional game.” Notre Dame AD Jack Swarbrick handed Michigan AD Dave Brandon a letter on the field before last season’s game, cancelling the ND-UM meetings which were scheduled in 2015-2017. Really? He couldn’t even bother to tell him to h...

Mark May lies through this teeth

I think we can all agree that Mark May is a terrible human beingcollege football studio analyst. He brings little insight to the viewers and is nothing more than another blowhard on the network. While probably unimaginable, he went to a new low earlier today while discussing the Michigan vs Notre Dame game, and whether it is a rivalry. Irish coach Brian Kelly says no, Brady Hoke...

Hoke: Michigan-Notre Dame a big deal

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Brian Kelly might not think that Michigan-Notre Dame is a big deal. Brady Hoke and Taylor Lewan are quick to disagree. One day after the Notre Dame coach played down the rivalry -- one that the Irish are leaving as quickly as the contract allows -- it was time for Michigan to discuss their side of the issue. "This is a great week," Hoke said at his...

Big Tentacles: Brady Hoke vs. Brian Kelly, Nathan Scheelhaase, Taylor Martinez, and more.

Big Tentacles - The Big Ten and it's influence over college football. We Just Disagree. Michigan head football coach Brady Hoke disagrees with Notre Dame HC Brian Kelly's claim that Michigan-Notre Dame is a regional rivalry, as opposed to being a major national rivalry. With the annual game not scheduled after 2014, it might be hard to call it both in the near...

Thomas Gordon Suspended for the Opener

Via UM press release: Michigan football head coach Brady Hoke announced Saturday (Aug. 31) that senior safety Thomas Gordon will serve a one-game suspension to open the 2013 season for a violation of team rules."It is important that our 115 sons represent this university and program to the high standards we hold," said Hoke. "But at times, like in society, our...

Hoke: "It is (a rivalry) for us"

In Brady Hoke's Q & A session with the media Monday he made very clear his feelings about the significance of Michigan's rivalry with Notre Dame.

We Came; They Conquered; What Do We Think?

The only way Central Michigan could have avoided a beat down was not coming out of the tunnel. Unfortunately for them, they did, and it was ugly. So that raises an interesting question. Why am I not ecstatic about a 59-9 victory? What more could I ask for? Well let’s examine this. Foremost, it was Central Michigan for godssake. So it’s hard to tell what’s really going...

The Committee Continues

In today's notebook, Irish head coach Brian Kelly discusses his relationship with Wolverines head coach Brady Hoke, scheduling standards for the program's future, the defense's ability to contend with Michigan's pro-style offense, and finding the right fits from a deep, unproven collection of running backs.

Kelly: Michigan not one of ND's 'historic' rivals

Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly says he doesn't see Michigan as one of Notre Dame's ''historic, traditional'' rivals. During his teleconference Sunday, Kelly pointed out there have been a number of years when the Fighting Irish (1-0) and Wolverines (1-0) haven't played. The two schools aren't scheduled to play again after next season because Notre Dame...

Michigan Is "Crying Wolf" About Notre Dame Rivalry

Enough is enough already. The whole conversation is getting ridiculous. This "discussion" about whether or not Michigan and Notre Dame are rivals is getting distorted and twisted into whatever people want to make it- as usual.  This debate has gone on for quite a long time, but it really got going last season when it was announced that Notre Dame wanted to discontinue...

Game 1 Wrap Up: Central Michigan

Some of my favorite photos from yesterday. Click to embiggen. View the entire set here. Now, on to the recap... "This is all about winning a championship. And if we get satisfied (with) one effort, know, we're not going to win it." -Brady Hoke, post-game. The day went as planned. Invite an inferior MAC...

Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly has changed his stance two days after saying he didn't consider Michigan ''one of those historic, traditional Notre Dame rivalries.'' He started his news conference Tuesday by saying he wanted to ''dispense with the nonsense'' and called the series against Michigan ''a great and historic rivalry.''...

Kelly: Michigan game a great, historic rivalry

Brian Kelly: Michigan not a ‘historic’ or ‘traditional’ rivalry for Notre Dame

2014 marks the final matchup between Michigan and Notre Dame for the foreseeable future as the Irish’s agreement with the ACC is scheduled to begin the following season. In fact 2015 will be the first time since 2001 and only the fourth time since 1984 that the two teams wouldn’t meet during the regular season. It was everything you could ask for when it came to an out of conference...
