The Bruins take a moment of silence to honor former teammate Nick Pasquale. In a multi-million dollar industry and rumors of inappropriate benefits and scandal, it is important to remember that college football is just a game played by some exceptional young men. We were reminded of this when UCLA played just 10 men in their opening play yesterday to honor their fallen teammate Nick Pasquale. Then the Bruins went out with 11, and honored him with an outstanding football game. The Bruins had just under 700 yards of offense and racked up 59 points. Hundley led the passing game by throwing for 280 yards and 3 touchdowns while Jordon James led all rushers with a career high 168 yards and 2 touchdowns. Senior Malcolm Jones contributed with 4 carries for 25 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Bruins defense held the shutout against the Aggies until the 4th quarter when they allowed 2 touchdowns. The Bruins did what was most important in this game in that they honored ex-teammate Nick Pasquale and won the game. However, there were some trouble sports for the Bruins. Just like in their game last week against Nebraska, the Bruins got off to a slow start against the Aggies with 2 red zone turnovers in their first 2 drives. The Bruins will need to play 60 minutes of high-level football if they want to take down Stanford and Oregon in the coming weeks. Hundley threw 2 more interceptions, putting his season total at 3 already. While the offense has been more the capable of putting points on the board, turnovers, especially interceptions that can be returned, will prove to be very costly later in the season. With bright spots vastly outweighing the dark spots from Saturday’s game, look for them to continue their offensive momentum against Cal. this week and put it all together in preparation for Stanford the following week.
