Champs of the Week:1. Montel Harris, RB, Temple- 351 rushing yards, 7 TD’sAfter last week’s injury, it looked like a very good possibility that Harris wouldn’t even play in the game against Army. Hope that didn’t deter anyone from playing him this week! Harris finished the game with 351 yards rushing and seven (yes, seven!) touchdowns in the win over Army. Both numbers were Big East conference records, and he finished one shy of the all-time record set by Howard Griffith. What helped get Harris the record was the unfortunate injury to backup Matt Brown after he himself had two touchdown runs all in the first quarter. Without that injury, we may not even be talking about Harris today2. Tajh Boyd, QB, Clemson- 531 total yards, 8 TD’sWhat’s better than seven? Eight! That’s how many total touchdowns Boyd accounted for in the win over NC State. Boyd set a school and ACC record for those eight scores, and was responsible for every Clemson touchdown. He set a school record with the 531 yar...

Badgers' Ball recognized for Walker Award

MADISON, Wis. For the second straight year, Wisconsin senior running back Montee Ball has been named one of three finalists for the Doak Walker Award, given to the top running back in college football. Ball joins Oregon's Kenjon Barner and UCLA's Jonathan Franklin as finalists this year. He is the third Wisconsin player to be named a Doak Walker Award finalist, along with...

NLD Football Podcast - The Wisconsin preview and Big Ten expansion reaction

Maybe Danny O'Brien was on to something. Not even a full year after the quarterback decided to transfer from Maryland to Wisconsin, the Terrapins have announced they will leave the ACC for the big paydays to come in the Big Ten. On Monday the school was officially introduced by Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany as the conference's 13th member, and a day later Rutgers became...

Two Commits added to Wisconsin's 2013 class

With all the news of conference expansion a little nugget of football recruiting has gotten lost in the shuffle, Wisconsin has added added two more recruits to their 2013 class. With these two additions it's going to be really interesting to see if anyone else comes on board as the numbers are getting very stretched for who they can take in this class. The first of those...

Badgers played good game and still fell short

MADISON, Wis. Well, at least Wisconsin's football team knows how to make things interesting in defeat. Ohio State edged Wisconsin, 21-14, in overtime Saturday afternoon at Camp Randall Stadium, marking the Badgers' second straight overtime loss at home this season. The margin actually represents Wisconsin's most lopsided loss of the year because the Badgers had lost...

College football award finalists named

Kansas State quarterback Collin Klein, Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel and Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o are the finalists for the Maxwell Award, which goes to the nation's top college football player. The finalists for the Maxwell and several other awards to be presented Dec. 6 in Orlando on ESPN were announced Tuesday. Te'o is also a finalist for the Chuck...

College football: Tailgater best and worst of week 12

Just when we thought the National Championship picture was coming into focus, the top two teams in the nation are knocked from atop the standings.  Kansas State was steamrolled by an unexpectedly good Baylor team, and once that game went final Notre Dame fans everywhere went crazy.  Alabama fans had to wait a bit longer for their celebration; Stanford didn’t beat Oregon until...

Vote for your Week 12 Pammy Nominees!

It's not quite a Pammy quote this week, but I do have to draw some attention to this week's Ohio State- Wisconsin game on Saturday.  It was amazing just how much the ESPN broadcast put towards Montee Ball chasing the NCAA FBS touchdown record.  Now, this is a significant record, don't get me wrong.  However, as Rob Oller in the Columbus Dispatch pointed out, Joe Tessitore...

Wisconsin stumbles into Big Ten championship game

Wisconsin isn't about to apologize. Yes, the Badgers (7-4, 4-3) are stumbling into the Big Ten title game after a 21-14 overtime loss to No. 4 Ohio State on Saturday. Currently third in the Leaders Division, they've basically been gifted a shot at playing for the Rose Bowl because the Buckeyes and Penn State, the two teams ahead of them, are ineligible for the postseason...

Sunday Morning Hangover: Badgers Coming Close Just Isn't Good Enough Anymore

(photo courtesy M.P. King - Wisconsin State Journal) As painful as it was to sit back and watch Wisconsin lose 21-14 in overtime to hated rivals Ohio State yesterday, it was even more painful to put myself through watching it a 2nd time on the good ole DVR. After watching things over once again there's only one conclusion that you can come to: Coming so close, yet losing...
