Crimson Tide AP Top 25 update
By SBRForum.com

Alabama won it all last season, and even after losing several key players, they are gearing up for another run at the BCS National Championship Game. At +500 could they be the value choice amongst the 2012 college football picks?Last season, the Tide finished atop the AP Poll, but they were not unanimous, as Oklahoma State and LSU all got some votes.

While I expect them to start the season high on the polls, I don’t see them getting number one in the preseason. There are several teams that have not lost as much as Bama, (including the BCS runner-up LSU) and they will all have their sights on beating the defending champs.

Currently, NCAAF Odds have the Crimson Tide third on the future odds to win the title again this season. Both LSU and USC have better odds at 4/1, while the Tide sits at 5/1. Third is about where I see the Tide opening up when the preseason polls are released.

A big factor for Alabama in the upcoming season(s) is the issue that was discussed in the SEC summer meetings just this past week. The presidents and athletic directors voted unanimously to approve a four-team playoff to decide the BCS Champion.

This would be huge for college football, and it is a bit surprising that the SEC (one of the most powerful conferences in college football) would approve of such a thing. An SEC school is always in a BCS Bowl game, and even though the bowls would be some how associated with the playoff, it kind of lowers the chances of an SEC team winning it.

However, it would expand and better the game, so that was obviously the deciding factor. Also, the money for the contending teams in the playoff would increase a bunch. It’s all about money and TV ratings for this move, but it’s a good one nonetheless.
