Braxton Miller scored three touchdowns, two of them passing and he threw for 217 yards while completing 16 of 25 attempts. That's not a bad outing for the junior signal caller. Problem was, those numbers were rather deceiving as he was sacked a whopping SEVEN times in front of a decent crowd of 37,643 at Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati.

All in all Miller's team won 31-14 and won't have to clean and landscape Buckeye Grove next Friday and that's all that matters.

However, for us the biggest story of this "game" was the fact that the defense, despite having to replace five of the seven starters upfront ate alive the offensive line and made the day a living hell for Miller and backup Kenny Guiton (9-14 for 116 yards and a TD).

Anytime you give up 11 sacks it's a bit worrisome on the offensive line and Meyer was quick to praise the defensive effort while also chastising the offensive line as well.

One man in particular stood out defensively and that's Adolphus Washington, who had 4.5 tackles - 4 of which were tackles for loss - to go along with 4 of the 11 sacks on the day. Safe to say the big man was impressive no matter the circumstances of the event he was playing in.

"Adolphus Washington has really raised his level of play," Meyer said in his postgame press conference. "He's a legitimate player. You saw him today just have his way with our offensive line at times."

Feeding off the tackles for loss of Washington, the Scarlet team had 9 total tackles for loss.

Another thing that was abundantly clear? The Buckeyes need Carlos Hyde in that backfield BAD. He wasn't participating due to injury and the Scarlet offense was held to just 18 yards on 20 carries  (of course the 9 sacks didn't help, but still, OUCH), while the Gray offense wasn't much better with just 88 yards on 25 carries.

Clearly there is plenty for this team to work on coming out of spring and expect Meyer to make that abundantly clear as they enter summer workouts and fall camp. Perfection one year doesn't mean things will be handed to you the next.
