Earlier in the spring, TCU head coach Gary Patterson suspended reigning Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year Devonte Fields for two games for a “violation of team rules.” The sophomore defensive end served the first game of his suspension against LSU last Saturday, but we’re not sure exactly when he’ll serve the second.
Patterson was asked at a press conference today if Fields would play this week against FCS opponent Southeastern Louisiana.
“Nothing’s changed,” Patterson said. “I’m just tired of putting the ‘and’ on there.”
The head coach caused some controversy when he listed Fields as the only starter at defensive end on this week’s depth chart. While Patterson did say Fields would serve his two-game suspension, he didn’t say definitively that it would or wouldn’t be the first two games.
“No matter what, [Devonte] will serve a two-game suspension,” Patterson said.
