From Ohio comes this story claiming that Penn State officials have spoken with former Florida coach Urban Meyer about becoming the next head coach, should Joe Paterno retire after the season.
The story (read it here) by Ohio State reporter Jeff Rapp quotes an anonymous source who says Meyer had a "productive" meeting with Penn State president Graham Spanier and athletic director Tim Curley while on campus in September. Meyer, now working for ESPN, was at Penn State to conduct an interview with linebacker Mike Mauti.
It's a juicy rumor that will linger a long way down the road, particularly if Penn State's season fizzles.
Even better: Meyer is part of the ABC crew calling Saturday's game against Iowa.
