Robert Nkemdiche, the defensive lineman from Grayson (Georgia) High School, is the number one recruit in the nation for the class of 2013.  He has offers from just about everybody, but he has yet to verbally commit to anyone.  Nkemdiche is obviously enjoying his recruitment, as every visit he takes is breathlessly reported, and each one results in story after story of how much he enjoyed whatever campus he was at that weekend, and how much he’d love to be a [insert mascot].  He’s also having fun with folks on twitter, calling out for fans of just about every school on his list to follow him.  This is all fine and good, and I commend the young man on his spectacular trolling of the entire country.  This only becomes a problem when fans (who, as we’ve covered before here, may fit the NCAA definition of a booster) tweet back at him, and encourage him to pick their school.  Most level headed people, once they’ve been informed that communicating with a recruit via twitter is in violation of NCAA regulations, acknowledge their mistake, and move along.  Some people, though, just can’t do that.  Instead of thanking concerned parties for the information, some individuals dig their heels in, and become the dreaded THAT GUY.  After the jump, the twitter tale of an Alabama THAT GUY.

This started innocuously enough, with Nkemdiche tweeting the following:

Lest you think that this is a hint of where Nkemdiche might eventually end up, he followed that with tweets asking Tiger fans (Auburn? LSU? Both?), “Rebel nation” (probably Ole Miss, where his brother plays, but hell, maybe UNLV too), bulldog fans (likely UGA, but perhaps Mississippi State), Texas fans, and Cornell (yes, the mighty Big Red) fans to follow him.  At any rate, this prompted a number of retweets and favorites, as well as several responses (which, as we’ve covered, could be a violation).  Some Alabama fans felt it was important to inform their fellow fans that this probably wasn’t a good idea, and that’s where the fun begins.  Judd Henderson, @Bama_man_Judd, tweeted the following:

That prompted this courteous response from Greg Dawkins, a fellow Alabama fan (who is a pretty good guy, from what I have seen on twitter, and who, it should be noted, has about ten times as many followers as our one man recruiting machine Judd):

From there, our man Judd summons all of his “that guy”ness, and we’re off and running.

“Mind your business, guy”

“I am beset on all sides by trolls.  But lo, I have my trusty block button.  Fie on all of you who presume to tell me how to conduct myself, especially if you have yet to make the pleasure of my acquaintance, for I am Bama man Judd.  K thanks.”

“Hark, dear friends, there are those about that seek to deceive us, and are truly Barners in disguise.  Beware of such treachery, as it is ubiquitous.  I, myself have just encountered such skulduggery.”

Ah, sweet rationality.  Cherish it, for it is brief.

“A pox upon your house, sir.  I am not in the employ of Master Saban.  Let not words from your twitter machine cross my timeline again.  Good day, sir.”

“Trolls!  Spammers!  If not for my true block button I would be adrift in a sea of misery.  And I offer a humble plea to our twitter overlords to address this issue of Barners run amok.”

“Trusty confidant and brother in arms, @SteelersTide74, I beseech thee to aid me in my battle against the evil Tiger minions.  In order to help accomplish our holy mission, I will send, via private message, there names.  There names?  Or is it their names?  I cannot be sure, I never excelled at that which is called English.”

In the end, brave crusader for truth and Bama justice Judd realized the error of his ways, but not before earning dreaded THAT GUY status.  Judd Henderson, aka @Bama_man_Judd, of North Carolina/Alabama, don’t be that guy.
