Draft Zone Spotlight: Gregory Jenkins, QB, Alabama State When Greg Jenkins left high school, he decided to play JUCO ball. After an excellent tour of duty with MGCCC, he was en route to Troy University to be the next big dual threat quarterback.  After a turn of events with the Offensive Coordinator leaving for Texas Tech, Greg decided to take his game elsewhere.  He decided to go to Alabama State, and what a wonderful decision it was.  Jenkins was an animal in the SWAC this year, rushing for 682 yards and 8 touchdowns and passing for 1691 yards and 9 touchdowns.  Greg Jenkins will be going to the NFLPA game to shine in front of NFL Scouts. This year the SWAC is well represented and Jenkins is just one of the players that will make an impact at the next level. How many teams were recruiting you coming out of high school and how did you make your decision? NC State, Louisville, Georgia Southern, Florida State, Troy, Middle Tennessee State and Florida Atlantic showed a lot of interest coming out of high school.   After graduating high school I decided to attend one of the best Junior colleges in the country Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. After having a successful career at MGCCC,  I accepted a full scholarship with Troy University. Unfortunately, after a few days at Troy the Offensive Coordinator that recruited me took a job at Texas Tech. Following that I decided to transfer to Alabama State University based in part on the success of former quarterback Tarvaris Jackson which really influenced my decision. What would you tell NFL teams that are weary of taking a late round flyer on you? I would tell that team that they are getting a humble, hard working football player that will make the team better. Have you been invited to any all star games? Yes.  NFLPA Collegiate Bowl. If you could compare your play to someone in the NFL, who would it be? If I could compare myself to anyone in the NFL it would be RGIII. What is the most tragic event in your life that has happened and how did you bounce back? My most tragic event was when my older brother got sentenced to life in prison.  It impacted the family in a negative way, but I had to keep chasing my dream for all of them. Who has had your back through the good and the bad as you’ve moved on balancing life as a student athlete? My mother has my back through any situation.  She’s my Super Woman. What’s your plan if you go undrafted? If I go undrafted I will look to try-out for a team that has the most need for my skill set. Everyone asks this question but I’m curious to know what will you buy first with your first NFL pay check? I will put my first NFL check toward buying a house for my mother, if possible. Finish this sentence for me, Come July 2013 I will be_________________? in a NFL training camp competing for a starting job.
