GAINESVILLE, Fla. Gators coach Will Muschamp provided more insight Monday into how quarterbacks Jeff Driskel and Jacoby Brissett will be used in Saturdays season opener against Bowling Green.
Muschamp announced that Driskel and Brissett will each play a quarter in the first half against the Falcons the order has not been determined and then they will be evaluated at halftime to determine the plan for the second half. Offensive coordinator Brent Pease is also heavily involved in the decision-making process.
Brent and I right now plan to play one in the first quarter and we have not made that decision yet and another in the second quarter, Muschamp said Monday. And then through halftime make a decision as we move forward.
The two highly touted sophomores have competed to be the Gators starter since spring practice. Driskel played in five games a year ago and Brissett earned a pair of starts when fifth-year senior John Brantley suffered a knee injury in midseason.
BEST OF MAXIM
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- After countless scrimmages, practices, meetings and evaluations, Florida's quarterback competition remains a dead heat.
So coach Will Muschamp has decided to play two.
Muschamp said Friday that both Jacoby Brissett and Jeff Driskel will play in next week's season opener against Bowling Green.
"They both deserve the right to play," Muschamp...
The Florida Gators still haven’t decided on a starting quarterback for the 2012 season and list both Jeff Driskel and Jacoby Brissett as quarterback for the opener against Bowling Green. Brissett is more of the pure passer and Driskel is more of the dual threat quarterback. Both quarterbacks are sophomores and both played last year when John Brantley was injured.
The depth chart...

With their kickoff of the 2012 college football season a week away, the Florida Gators go into their game against Bowling Green without knowing who will start the game at quarterback. The competition is between Jeff Driskel and Jacoby Brissett. Driskell has been nursing a bruised shoulder since August 12 and has...
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- One will start, both will play. And when the season opener is over, No. 23 Florida probably will decide between the two.
Offensive coordinator Brent Pease said Tuesday he's not sure the team's two-quarterback system is viable beyond Saturday's game against Bowling Green, meaning the Gators likely will choose between Jacoby Brissett and Jeff...
After Florida quarterbacks Jacoby Brissett and Jeff Driskel each finish their quarter of the first half, the coaching staff will make a decision at halftime about the rest of the game’s setup. Florida offensive coordinator Brent Pease admitted on Tuesday that it isn’t the ideal route for his team to go, but it’s the best way for them to figure out a quarterback after the two...
Be afraid Bowling Green. Fear the two-headed quarterback monster that is coming your way. Or go about your day in a regular fashion because not you, us, or even the Florida Gators seem to know what will work heading into the 2012 season.
On Monday, the Gators released their depth chart for that first game against the Falcons and it doesn’t answer many questions. We’re not surprised...
There will be a starting quarterback on Saturday when the Florida Gators host the Bowling Green Falcons in the 2012 season opener for both teams. That QB won’t see the field during the second quarter though.
Will Muschamp has said that whichever quarterback starts the game will play the entire first quarter. The one that doesn’t start will get to show his stuff during the second...
The Florida quarterback situation is a bit of an awkward one. In the Gator season-opener this weekend, each quarterback will play one quarter and the staff will reevaluate at half. Florida Offensive Coordinator Brent Pease and both quarterbacks, Jeff Driskel and Jacoby Brissett, spoke to the media today. Cody Jones and Amy Campbell discuss it here.
