Elite QB recruit Walker Howard to transfer from LSU

Walker Howard was a big-time 2022 recruit for Brian Kelly and the LSU Tigers. Kelly wanted Howard when he was at Notre Dame, and the Louisiana native likely felt it was fate when Kelly left South Bend and took the LSU job.

A year later, though, reports indicate that the former four-star quarterback is planning on entering the portal and transferring out of LSU. Even worse, 247Sports' Brad Crawford notes that Florida "comes to mind" as a team that is "best-suited for a quarterback in the portal."  The national champion runner-up, TCU, is another potential location.

Howard was behind returning starter Jayden Daniels and his backup, Garrett Nussmeier, for all of this season. He did get some playing time in LSU's Citrus Bowl blowout win over Purdue as well as the last offensive series of the game for LSU in an early September blowout over Southern.

That's not to say the young quarterback doesn't have talent, though. His lack of playing time was more a circumstance of LSU's depth chart than anything.

Walker was the No. 5 quarterback in the 2022 class, according to 247Sports, as well as a top-50 overall recruit nationally. ESPN ranked him as the No. 1 dual-threat quarterback in his class, and he was an Under Armour All-American as well as an Elite 11 camp participant.

Without a doubt, Walker has a bright future as a college quarterback. Unfortunately for LSU, though, it doesn't look like that future will be in Baton Rouge.
