Fox Sports Florida:
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- Florida will be without starting right tackle Matt Patchan against Ohio State in the Gator Bowl.
Coach Will Muschamp says Patchan injured his upper back during practice and has been ruled out for Monday's game.
Xavier Nixon, who has struggled all season and was eventually benched, likely will move back into the starting lineup against the Buckeyes. The Gators also could be without guard Dan Wenger, who has missed practice with an ankle injury. Muschamp says he is questionable.
Patchan's injury is his latest in a long list. The junior from Tampa has missed time because of a gunshot wound, a torn pectoral muscle, a knee injury that resulted from an on-campus scooter accident and a broken right wrist.
Patchan has started seven games, all this season.

The moments of pause strike unexpectedly. This is really it for Florida's 2011 Team MVP. Rainey will play his final game for the Gators in Monday's Gator Bowl against Ohio State, the end of five memorable seasons and one huge growth spurt.

Powell talks about the state of the team, how he's developed as a player, and how important this win really is for Florida.
On Thursday the Gators lost on the road, in double overtime, to Rutgers. So it might be an odd time to consider if they are legitimate national championship contenders, but it's easier to learn about a team when they struggle than when everything is going right. This team isn't as talented as the back-to-back Champions from 2006 and 2007, but what team is? Billy Donovan...
Florida currently has perhaps the most talented group of backcourt players in the country. But upon closer examination, Erving Walker is a senior, Michael Rosario and Kenny Boynton are juniors, and freshman Brad Beal is playing like a potential NBA draft early entrant. Florida head coach Billy Donovan has been on the trail of several [...]

Florida defensive coordinator Dan Quinn isn't happy with the way his defense played at times this season but a quick look at the depth chart has him expecting improvement next season. The Gators filtered in multiple returning players on defense this season while Jaye Howard and William Green are the only contributing players that won't be with the team next year.

This is why I love bowl games so much. Neither Ohio State nor Florida had the type of season either program is used to, but now that the Buckeyes have hired former Gators coach Urban Meyer to rebuild...
No. 6/6 Kentucky women's basketball opens its 31st season of Southeastern Conference basketball when it travels to Gainesville, Fla., Sunday, Jan. 1 to take on the Florida Gators. Game time in the Stephen C. O'Connell Center is 1 p.m. ET. The game will be televised live on CSS.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. Coming off the first Southeastern Conference championship in school history, the Florida Gators entered the 1992 season ranked No. 4 in the country. Considering the losses from the previous roster -- especially on both lines of scrimmage -- that projection was considerably optimistic (if not unrealistic).
Kenny Boynton's 26 points led No. 10 Florida to a 90-70 victory over Yale on Saturday less than 40 hours after the Gators were upset at Rutgers.
