Former Alabama QB questions why Oregon is ahead of the Tide in the CFP rankings

For the second straight week Alabama was slated at the No. 8 spot in the College Football Playoff rankings on Tuesday.

Despite defeating LSU 42-28, it wasn’t enough for the Crimson Tide to budge from the back end of the top 10, but following the release of the rankings, many are beginning to critique the committee’s rankings as usual.

Former Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy, who was a part of the ESPN broadcast for the rankings, voiced his opinion on the resume of Oregon and how it’s important to note that it is still ranked above teams such as Alabam and Texas.

“We are not paying attention to the resume as it relates to Oregon,” McElroy said on the ESPN broadcast. “They have one win against a team with a winning record at the moment, that being Utah. Their next-best win is 4-5 Colorado. The next-best win after that is 4-5 Washington State. Whereas Texas has beaten five teams with a winning record including a win on the road in Tuscaloosa. And Alabama has beaten four.

“So if we’re really going to value the eye test, I think it should absolutely be a factor.”

McElroy went on to argue that the playoff committee has been inconsistent in regard to ranking based on resume vs. eye test.

“Why are we using resume to define Ohio State as No. 1? We’re using eye test to define Georgia and Michigan as No. 2 and No. 3, we’re using resume plus eye test to find Florida State at No. 4, and then we like Washington, but, you know… there’s no consistency,” said McElroy.
