Former Alabama QB reacts to Nick Saban joining ESPN

Although he’s retired from coaching football, Nick Saban will remain a busy man this fall.

Not only will he serve as an advisor to new Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer and the program, but Saban will also be joining ESPN and an analyst for its college football and NFL Draft coverage.

Many have speculated that Saban would make the transition to media after his coaching days and now that it’s become a reality one of his former players who has also made the transition from the field to behind the camera is excited for him to join the team at ESPN.

Former Crimson Tide quarterback Greg McElroy who is now an analyst at ESPN, shared his reaction to the news on his podcast “Always College Football” on Wednesday.

“I’m excited to see how he does,” McElroy said. “I think he’s gonna do great by the way. Nobody knows more football than Nick Saban.”

Saban’s voice won’t just be important for his game film breakdowns and coaching stories of the past, but his insight about what the future of college football should be has always been an opinion many have valued.

McElroy believes that having the platform of ESPN will only enhance his sentiments on the state of the game.

“No one has more credibility than Nick Saban as it relates to not just what’s going on on the field but I think outside the realm of college football and what we need now is leadership,” McElroy said. “We need direction. We need people willing to speak up and say here’s what we should do. We need common sense.

“Hearing it on television I think might help usher it in. When Nick Saban says it you listen. Whether you like him, dislike him, however you feel you probably respect what he has to say and respect the perspective which it is coming from.”
