Former Alabama WR weighs on transfer QB committing to the Crimson Tide

A former University of Alabama wide receiver has a perspective on Thursday’s news.

Some fans of Alabama football are concerned with the Crimson Tide getting Tyler Buchner out of the transfer portal as Notre Dame’s former quarterback. Marquis Maze, a two-time BCS National Champion in 2009 and 2011, has no problems with it.

He weighed in on the quarterback conversation via Twitter. Maze feels that despite the Tide having four quarterbacks on the roster, the spring game did not provide us with the player that could consistently get receivers the ball. Maze said ‘there is more to playing quarterback than athleticism and a strong arm.’ He also said Alabama has to throw downfield to keep defenses honest.

It’s no disrespect to the Qb’s we already had but it was obvious we was missing a guy who could use these guys we have on the outside consistently. Qb is more than athleticism and a strong arm

We only can run the ball so much you have to be able to throw the ball down field to keep other defenses honest. Coach just told y’all a few days ago that we only go in the portal for guys who can help us immediately! Roll Tide

Sorry not sorry for my honest opinion, hell if it’s was guys that was better when I played that could’ve done my job better than me I would’ve wanted him to play, thing is my competitive nature wouldn’t let another man out do me, and I wasn’t running to the portal

Maze has a valid point.

Alabama wants to return to controlling the clock, but it has to create explosive plays too.

We will see what Buchner adds to the team.
