Two people were killed when a small plane crashed into a house in South Bend on Sunday. The victims have been identified as 60-year-old Steven Davis and 58-year-old Wesley Caves both of Tulsa, Okla.
Davis was part of the Oklahoma Sooners football team in the 1970s. During his time at the teams’ quarterback the Sooners went 32-1-1 and won two national championships. Davis was the quarterback for the first three seasons of head coach Barry Switzer.
Fuel leaking from the plane forced the evacuation of area houses. Two other passangers on the plane survived, one is listed in serious condition while another is listed in fair.
Reports say that that the plane attempted to land at South Bend Regional Airport at 4:15 pm but had to attempt a second attempt at a landing. Eight minutes later it was reported that the plane had went down.
The FAA reports that the pilot of the plane reported an electrical problem upon the initial approach to the airport.
