Since it can be said that Auburn is really, really bad this year, it is time for Gene Chizik Watch to begin in earnest. It was only a few weeks ago that I wrote about Chizik being on the hot seat. I gave him a lukewarm pass. His recruiting was OK, and then there was the whole Cam Newton once-in-a-lifetime quarterback thing. Well, that was then.Auburn is now 0-4 in the conference, and 1-5 overall. Their lone win was a three-point squeaker against UL-Monroe. At the time, lots of people thought ULM was just having one of those wild seasons where a non-BCS team makes some noise in the upper conferences. After all, the Warhawks had already upset then-ranked 8th Arkansas. Well, that was before Arkansas became what they are this season, while ULM is having a good season."Ya'll know I won this, right?"The Tigers have lost three games in a row, and the last two were to Arkansas and Ole Miss. And neither of those were close. Auburn is 1-5 against the spread, meaning they aren't even coming close to what Vegas predicts they will do.In my opinion, this is the week Chizik has to win. The Tigers travel to Vanderbilt for a 12:20 kick off this Saturday. If Auburn can't get it done against Vanderbilt, Chizik won't be on the sidelines the rest of the season.Currently, Auburn is last in the SEC in scoring offense, last in total yards per game, and is next to last in rushing yards per game, passing yards per game, and first downs per game. The defense isn't quite as horrible, but they still rank in the bottom half of most categories in the conference. With games remaining against Texas A&M, Georgia, and Alabama, if Auburn administrators are going to let Chizik go, there really isn't a point to him coaching out the string. The one hold up might be his contract, which is why coaches love long term contracts. After his BCS Championship, Chizik was given an extension through 2015 at $3.5 million annually. So, that might be his one saving grace. But as I said on twitter Saturday, if they can't beat Ole Miss, the alumni might donate to buy him out. And if they can't beat Vanderbilt, I would guarantee it.
