The Majors Ann Arbor:
Brendan Gibbons’ 44-yard field goal was certainly amazing as the last second effort eventually sent the Wolverines to a 27-19 triple overtime victory over Northwestern Saturday afternoon.
The epic final second boot also saved Michigan from another defeat with Brady Hoke calling it perhaps ‘the best single play’ he’s ‘ever seen’.
“That tells you about the discipline of these guys playing together,” Hoke said. “How they got on the field, how the guys who weren’t on the (field goal) team got off the field.
“It might be the best single play I’ve ever seen, because it was a team play.”
It certainly was thrilling, at least the final quarter and three overtimes. And I hate to be critical after a much needed road win but where was this clutch factor for Gibbons a few weeks ago against Penn State?

It took an amazing special team’s last second field goal to send it into overtime, and three overtimes for Michigan to bag the win that arguably resurrected the season. Although the Wolverines beat Northwestern 27-19, it was as ugly. It was windy, raining, and cold. Then, there were Northwestern’s “Wounded Warrior” uniforms. Don’t get me wrong, it is a noble...
Thanks to a very dramatic, last second, 44-yard successful field goal by Wolverine kicker Brendan Gibbons to end regulation, the Michigan Wolverines were able to extend the game against Northwestern into triple-overtime and earned a hard fought and much needed victory on the road in Evanston.
And also thanks to Devin Gardner who converted the game winning score and subsequent successful...
Northwestern must be the most unlucky final-play-in-regulation team in the entire country. Two weeks ago, the Wildcats lost to Nebraska on a ridiculous 49-yard “hail mary” pass from Ron Kellogg III to Jordan Westerkamp. Today, Michigan’s Brendan Gibbons ran onto the field with under 10 seconds to go and somehow nailed a 44-yard field goal as time expired. The execution was...
Brady Hoke and his Michigan Wolverines know that they needed a spectacular special-teams play and three overtimes to beat Northwestern Saturday -- a team that doesn't have a conference victory.
After the embarrassing losses to Michigan State and Nebraska, they'll take it. But there's still a long way to go.
Michigan's offense continued to sputter, with their only...
Devin Gardner scored on a 5-yard run to lift Michigan to a 27-19 triple-overtime victory over Northwestern on Saturday after the Wolverines' Brendan Gibbons tied it with a 44-yard field goal at the end of regulation.
Gardner scored on an option and ran it in on the two-point conversion to make it an eight-point game.
Northwestern had one more chance, but Trevor Siemian got...
