Heisman Hopefuls:(1) Collin Klein: (QB: Kansas State University):  After leaving Saturday’s contest against Oklahoma State with concussion-like symptoms it is too early to tell the long-term impact of Klein’s decline in performance or potential absence. He has solidified himself as the front-runner for the award with great road performances against Oklahoma and West Virginia. Klein did record 309 Total yards against the Cowboys as well as registering a TD on the ground. Not his most stellar performance of the year, but as long as the Wildcats continue to win, look for Klein to be in NYC for the Heisman ceremony.2012 STATSPASSINGRATYDSTDINTCMP%174.4187512271.1 RUSHINGYDSTDYPC698175.0 -------(2) Kenjon Barner: (RB: University of Oregon): Many viewers may have missed Barner’s record setting performance of 321 yards and 5 TD’s against USC on Saturday, as the LSU vs. Alabama game took the primetime spotlight, but it was one of the most impressive performances of the season by any player. Barner is on pace to eclipse the 2000 yard mark by season’s end as well as score close to 30 TD’s. It will be tough for Barner to continue to throw up such gaudy numbers with Oregon having a wealth of riches in the playmaker department, but another performance for Barner like his performance against USC will certainly cement Barner in the Heisman conversation.2012 STATSRUSHINGYDSTDYPC1295197.2 RECEIVINGRECYDSYPRTD1518412.31 ------- (3) AJ McCarron: (QB: University of Alabama): Leading Alabama to yet another victory, this time a come-from-behind thriller in Baton Rouge vs. LSU, has McCarron positioned firmly in the Heisman race. McCarron’s performance against LSU was not the gaudiest or prettiest by any stretch of the imagination, at one point his struggling appeared to be the reason for the Tide’s crashing from atop the BCS Rankings. However, in crunch time when it mattered most, McCarron led the Tide to a game winning touchdown drive completing 4 of 5 passes for 72 yards and the game winning TD. If Klein or K-State stumbles, look for McCarron to hang around in the race until season’s end.2012 STATSPASSINGRATYDSTDINTCMP%173.5184919066.7 RUSHINGYDSTDYPC-441-1.3 -------(4) Manti Te’o: (LB: University of Notre Dame): A 3OT thriller with Pittsburgh? Not exactly what the Irish or Te’o wanted to stake their claim in the BCS/Heisman battle. Te’o was not impactful or even noticeable in the game. He will need to really have impressive performances vs. Boston College and Wake Forest before a national showdown with USC. If Ndamukong Suh was not able to bring home the Heisman, it does not look likely for Te’o to be the first primarily defense player to do so.2012 STATSTACKLESTOTSOLOSACK85362 INTERCEPTIONSINTYDSTD5350 -------(5) Marqise Lee: (WR: University of Southern California): After a preposterous game of 16 receptions for a Pac-12 record 345 yards (2 TD’s) against Arizona, Lee followed it up with a solid 12 receptions and 157 yards (2 TD’s) against Oregon. If Lee continues to record impressive statistics in his next two weeks, his showdown against undefeated Notre Dame in the regular season finale, could just be the exclamation point he needs to cap off his great sophomore campaign.  2012 STATSRECEIVINGRECYDSYPRTD88128614.612  ------- Honorable MentionJohnny Manziel- Needs to beat Alabama this weekend to really get any substantial considerationBraxton Miller- Tough being a QB for a team battling with irrelevancy and rife with prior scandal to win a Heisman.
