With an overall 12-17 record as the Kentucky Wildcats' football coach and with a current record of 1-3, it is time to make a change in Lexington?

I for one am sad by this because I strongly support minority head football coaches.

But watching the Wildcats play football is simply unwatchable and I am wondering if men’s hoops coach John Caliperi could do any worst?

Losing to Louisville and Florida can be justified.

Well actually it can’t, but I’m sure Cats fans can be more forgiving because losing to two superior talented teams is a given. However, losing to Western Kentucky in overtime is a sin and the punishment should be Joker’s job.

Granted, Kentucky isn’t a hotbed for football talent, but Lexington is a nice city and you can always sell the basketball team to your recruits. Plus, the fact that you play in the SEC should be a draw for top flight recruits.  So what gives?

The leaders at Kentucky may think twice about firing Joker because if they do, they will be on the hook for almost $2 million in salary for 2013 and 2014. If Joker gracefully resigns, which only a person insane would do, Kentucky pays zilch. I don’t expect Joker to resign anytime soon.

In order to salvage Joker’s job this season, he would have to go on an incredible hot streak and at least win seven games. He still may be fired in the end, but at least go out in a blaze of glory.  However, looking at the upcoming schedule that task will be difficult to obtain. Let’s break it down.

Up next is South Carolina. Well if Florida put 38 on the Cats, I think it is safe to say that Steve Spurrier will not show any mercy and take care of the Wildcats in Lexington. So that puts Joker at 1-4. Up next is 21st ranked Mississippi State who is emerging as a BCS favorite in the SEC.

Loss, so now the record stands at 1-5. Next is a toss up game in Fayetteville against the Hogs who are the most overrated and dysfunctional team in the country.  Because I like Joker, I will say they win that game in a close contest, so 2-5.

The next three are Georgia, Missouri and Vanderbilt. Georgia is a loss, but the Missouri and Vandy games are very winnable. So with two wins out of three, the Cats are now 4-6. The last two games are against Samford and Tennessee.

The Samford game is no gimmie because they are currently 4-0 and will sense a wounded Cats team and will look for the upset. Mark it down as an upset. They will not beat Tennessee, so the Joker’s finishes the season with a 4-8 record.

With losses coming to Western Kentucky and Samford, the axe will be sharpened for Joker and his tenure as the Kentucky football coach will be severed.

I’m sure now the Kentucky brass is in a wait and see mode and will let the season dictate what they decide in the off season. I don’t think they will fire Joker during the season, but I do believe he is finished after this year.

It wouldn’t surprise me if Kentucky’s Athletic Director Mitch Barnhart is already drafting up a list of replacements for Joker.
