The Texas A&M Aggies encountered a major impediment to all the ambitious goals and lofty aspirations which they continue to harness this season. They were in the midst of a truly hostile environment in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, battling the Ole Miss Rebels in a back-and-forth affair highlighted by entertaining offensive plays from both opposing squads. Throughout the second half, it appeared to fans and outside observers as if TAMU’s season was very much in jeopardy and as if the Aggies were on the verge of possible derailment of their conference and national title dreams. That appeared to be the predicament the Aggies were staring in the face – until ole #2 decided to take matters into his own hands. TAMU’s reigning Heisman Trophy-winning QB Johnny Manziel delivered yet another astounding individual performance to rescue the Aggies’ season and to avert a potentially catastrophic road defeat. He lifted the Aggies out of a tremendously adverse situation on the road to keep their title hopes intact; and the way he performed followed the familiar script with which he has mesmerized defenses in the past. The Aggies’ defense in the fourth quarter was clearly having great difficulty slowing down the Rebels’ explosive offensive attack. TAMU was on its heels in attempting to defend Ole Miss’ two-headed monster of Bo Wallace and Barry Brunetti at quarterback, a combination which pressured the Aggies immensely to account for each and every part of the field. Thankfully for the folks from College Station, though, Johnny Manziel played like himself. He employed his signature style of play once again to peak effectiveness. ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit describes the style as “backyard football”, and such a description could not be more fitting. Manziel improvised with the game on the line, showing off his natural instincts for creating plays out of apparent unlikely circumstances. With his phenomenal performance this past weekend in helping to lift the Aggies out of Oxford with a difficult win, Johnny Manziel appears to have catapulted his Heisman candidacy once again to the forefront of the race. Thanks in large part to him, TAMU remains a top ten team still harboring all its goals and aspirations. He may be one of, if not the most, polarizing figures in college football both on and off the field. But don’t dispute his unique ability on the football field. No views yet
