Maurice Hurst Jr

Maurice Hurst Jr. (Westwood, Massachusetts) visited Michigan this weekend and became commitment number 19 for Brady Hoke and the Wolverines. Hurst is a 6-foot-2, 275 pound defensive tackle prospect. He is the son of former New England Patriot Maurice Hurst and  is considered a 4-star recruit by scout.com.

Hurst becomes the 2nd defensive lineman to join the Wolverines 2013 recruiting class, Taco Charlton (Pickerington, Ohio) a highly regarded defensive end is the other. As a junior, Hurst recorded 61 tackles, 13.5 for loss, 9 sacks and 4 forced fumbles.

Here is an excerpt of Hurst’s scouting report on ESPNU

Hurst is a defensive tackle prospect capable of being disruptive. He has solid overall size and should be able to add some more good mass to his frame…Displays solid long speed. He will try and wrap-up as a tackler and displays strong hands for drag down types. As a pass rusher he is capable of getting a quick hard charge up-field to get pressure…Hurst is capable of quickly getting off the ball and being disruptive and if he can continue to maintain that while adding size and rounding out his game he can develop into a good and productive college defensive tackle.

Hurst is an excellent addition to the 2013 class and fills a definite need as the only defensive tackle among the 19 recruits who are currently committed, see the complete list below.

Notes

Michigan has turned up the heat in their pursuit of 2013 running back Derrick Green (Richmond, Virginia). Green is a 5-star prospect and considered the #1 running back in the country by rivals.com. He is a 6-foot, 215 pound beast, who epitomizes the term power runner.
