For his whole career at Alabama, AJ McCarron has been known as a game manager, as a guy that goes into the game more for ceremonial purposes than to actually lead courageously. Let it be known, however, that this perception has been forever altered by the events that happen at Kyle Field in College Station this past Saturday. McCarron played equal to the level of competition, matching Johnny Football drive for drive, and coming up big when it counted the most. While McCarron wasn’t asked to do as much as Johnny Manziel, he still produced great numbers, completing almost 75% of his passes, and throwing for 334 yards and four touchdowns. However, the true ‘turning point” was the final touchdown, with under three minutes left in the game. Originally, Nick Saban had wanted to run the ball, but the quarterback stepped up, voiced his desire to have the ball in his hands, and called a play action roll out that was the winning effort for the Crimson Tide. This is the type of leadership anybody would want to see out of a senior, and a quarterback. McCarron has grown into a smart, decisive leader who can make things happen without the mistakes that usually come with college quarterbacks. Few players get the chance to play, much less start, in three national championship games. The opportunity that McCarron has now in front of him is absolutely priceless, but with his efforts against Texas A&M last Saturday, he showed that he was up to the task. While Johnny Football may have more flash, and Teddy Bridgewater may have more speed, don’t count out AJ McCarron, especially if they go on to have another undefeated season, for Heisman.

Nick Saban penalizes TJ Yeldon

Alabama Crimson Tide star running back T.J. Yeldon has been suspended for the first quarter of Saturday’s game against Colorado State for his touchdown celebration in the first half of last week’s thrilling 49-42 win over Texas A&M, the Anniston Star reports. In that touchdown celebration (see video below), Yeldon mimicked Johnny Manziel’s “money” gesture and followed...

Alabama Football: Nick Saban is ‘too old’ to start somewhere new

On the morning drive to work, sport’s talk show host Paul Finebaum was still on the subject. The fact that University of Texas fans continue to think its a possibility that Nick Saban would consider to replace Mack Brown. The Associated Press reported on Thursday that a current and former Texas regent contacted Nick Saban’s agent, Jimmy Sexton, in January about the concept. This...

Report: Tide's Yeldon to sit a quarter

Alabama running back T.J. Yeldon's actions against Texas A&M have earned him a seat on the bench -- for a while -- according to a report. Yeldon will sit out for the first quarter of Saturday's Colorado State-Alabama game after his throat-slash gesture led to an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty against Texas A&M, the Anniston Star reported. Yeldon scored a touchdown...

Saban to leave for the University of Texas?

Would Nick Saban actually entertain a move to switch Conferences and take over at the University of Texas?  Reports are that the University of Alabama coach has been identified as a strong replacement should Mack Brown not return after this season.  Nick Saban has reached what few coaches could ever claim and yet perhaps the greatest opportunity to build upon his legacy could be...

Here's Nick Saban and Mack Brown playing Jenga and Hungry Hungry Hippos for ESPN College GameDay.

Back in 2010, Alabama head football coach Nick Saban and Texas HC Mack Brown filmed a commercial for EPSN College GameDay. The two coaches has earlier in the year faced each other when Alabama beat Texas for its first BCS title under Saban. This commercial is ironic as reports circulate that Saban was targeted to replace Brown at Texas as early as January. (HT to Mr....

Nick Saban has put together a dynasty at Alabama and seems to be happy there, but if one job could make him leave Tuscaloosa, it might be Texas. Katerine Webb and AJ McCarron are not broken up?

I have been living under a rock. I did not even know Katerine Webb and A.J. McCarron had broken up which makes all this even more confusing. Here is what I understand. Webb’s mother was quoted in a story by Radar Online saying that the former Miss Alabama and the Crimson Tide quarterback were over. The website also got a “source” close to McCarron to say that it could be just...
