Today the Big Ten Conference announced 788 different student-athletes who have been named to the Academic All-Conference Team.

Among them: Spartan punter, Mike Sadler.

But while it is an honor to make it onto that list of names, Sadler didn’t just blend in with the crowd.

A much smaller group was further honored as a group in which all members maintained perfect GPA’s throughout the fall season.

That’s right, not only did Sadler meet the required 3.0 GPA to make the Academic All-Big Ten team, but the punter managed a 4.0 GPA in applied engineering sciences for the season as well as averaging 39.6 yards per punt on the field.

Sadler is only one of 14 student-athletes to make the requirement of a flawless GPA in the Big Ten, and he is also only one of 14 freshmen (redshirt) presently punting in the FBS.

He is currently tied for 25th in the nation with 19 of his punts landing inside of the 20 yard line, and stands tied for eighth for the most punts pinned inside of the 10 (Sadler has nine).

The Grand Rapids native boasts a career-long of 55 yds, which came earlier this year against Notre Dame.

Sadler plays one of the most crucial roles, as punter, in what head coach Mark Dantonio constantly stresses as one of the keys to victory: special teams. Although not always given due credit, Sadler has been a big part of the Spartans winning the field position battle, and in turn, winning games this fall.

Look for Sadler and the rest of the Michigan State squad on Jan. 2, when they take on the Georgia Bulldogs in the Outback Bowl.
