Finally! Football is back! (sort of) The Big Ten Football Media Days are happening right now that is and that is at least some cause for concern that the football season is right around the corner. And Michigan State senior linebacker Max Bullough has been part of some news that’s worth taking note of. That’s because today Max Bullough has officially been named to the Big Ten’s third-annual Players to Watch list. The list is comprised of ten student-athletes, five each from both the legends and leaders, and is selected by a media panel attending the Big Ten Football Media Days. The complete list of players to watch are as follows. Legends Division Devin Gardner, QB, Michigan Taylor Lewan, OT, Michigan Max Bullough, LB, Michigan State Taylor Martinez, QB, Nebraska Venric Mark, RB, Northwestern Leaders Divison Braxton Miller, QB, Ohio State Bradley Roby, CB, Ohio State Ryan Shazier, LB, Ohio State Allen Robinson, WR, Penn State Chris Borland, LB, Wisconsin It’s been a big summer so far for the 6’3″, 245 lb Bullough. The star linebacker has been named to several other preseason watch liststhat include the Butkus Award (top linebacker), Lombardi Award (college lineman of the year), Bronko Nagurski Trophy (nation’s best defensive player), Bednarik Award (defensive player of the year) and Lott IMPACT Trophy (defensive impact player of the year). Max Bullough has started 27 games in a row for the Spartans and is now entering into his 3rd season as a starter. Bullough has also been named to preseason All American teams by both Phil Steele (second team) and Athlon Sports (third team). Fresh off of a season in which he accumulated for 111 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and 1 interception, Bullough led his team in tackles for the second straight season and looks to once again anchor one of the best defenses in the nation in his third season as a starter at Michigan State. “Max Bullough is simply a complete football player and one of the elite players at his position in the country,” Michigan State assistant coach coach/defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi said. “Max is the unquestioned leader of our defense. With his football IQ, it’s like having a coach on the field. He’s is an instinctive player, who makes difficult plays look routine. Max consistently plays at a high level, and he possesses the unique ability to make the players around him better.” After a disappointing 7-6 season of “inches” as Dantonio put it today at the Big Ten Football Media Days, it’s no doubt that seniors like Bullough will be looking turn things around and go out strong, returning Michigan State to one the Big Ten’s elite teams. Without a doubt, Bullough will be the heart and sole of the Spartan defense. And with a suspect offense on the other side of the ball, possibly even the entire team. Nevertheless, he and the rest of the Michigan State team are all certainly getting prepared for the upcoming season as preseason practices are set to start Saturday, August 3rd. From there, they’ll kick off the season on August 30th at 8 PM against Western Michigan.     Follow Ryan Squanda twitter @squandaryan
