Michigan State is definitely the favorite to win tomorrow against the 0-3 Eagles, and the Spartans definitely want to make a statement after their poor performance last week against Notre Dame.

“I wish we were playing tomorrow, I wish we were playing today,” said Dantonio in last Tuesday’s press conference. “That’s how we feel. That’s how you feel after what happened last Saturday. You want to just get on with it and get back on the game field. You want to try to right a wrong.”

The receivers dropped several passes, the offensive line took a beating, the defense gave up a couple big plays, Dan Conroy has missed a field goal each game this season, and Mark Dantonio got impatient and didn’t run the football.

“I felt like we needed to change the tempo in the third quarter there, which we did do it,” Dantonio said. “But really my main focus was on we needed to create one big play, one momentum changer just to swing everything in our favor because the score was 14 3.”

Not only should the Spartans win by a convincing amount tomorrow, but they need to clean up their mistakes if they want to win the Big Ten title this year.

The defense is not the problem, and Dan Conroy has made two 50-yard field goals, but it’s the offense that needs to execute better. We have seen Michigan State establish the running game this year if Dantonio sticks to the game plan, but what happens when Ohio State isn’t giving up anything on the ground on Sept. 29 at Spartan Stadium?

It is imperative that Michigan State executes in the passing game tomorrow. If the Spartans don’t find two or three receivers that can get open down the field, and that can bring the ball in, and that can finish the play, then it may very well be a long Big Ten season.

It is crucial that the offensive line can give Andrew Maxwell enough time in the pocket. It is even more important that Maxwell can develop some consistency and create some big plays through the air.

The most important thing that the Spartans need to do against Eastern is get Maxwell and a solid group of receivers in a good rhythm and bring that into the conference schedule.

Mark Dantonio’s Post Game Interview

After the Eastern Michigan Vs. Michigan State game, Mark Dantonio took the podium for the weekly post-game interview. If you’ve seen any Dantonio Post-Game interview, you’ve probably seen him calmly answer questions. Not here. In this interview, Dantonio was short, snarky, mean, and looked just flat out infuriated. For a good reason- MSU looked awful against Eastern Michigan...

Versatility helps Thomas fit into MSU lineup

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Lawrence Thomas calls himself a child of God and a mommas boy, and does so with a smile. Thomas is as sure of those claims as he was of choosing Michigan State -- which was the only school the state's top high school senior, out of the Detroit Renaissance, visited in 2010. What's up for debate is what position Thomas should play. The 6-foot-3, 283...

Versatility, attitude get Thomas into MSU lineup

Bell carries Spartans past Eastern Michigan

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Le'Veon Bell rushed for a career-high 253 yards and a touchdown to help stagnant Michigan State avoid a major upset with a 23-7 win over Eastern Michigan on Saturday. Dan Conroy kicked three field goals for the No. 21 Spartans (3-1), who failed to score a TD for more than seven quarters until Andrew Maxwell hit tight end Dion Sims on a 10-yard pass...

Video: Mark Dantonio doesn’t have time for your ridiculous question

Michigan State followed up their ugly loss to Notre Dame with a questionable performance, but a win, against Eastern Michigan. It wasn’t a pretty, but a win’s a win. After the game, however, head coach Mark Dantonio wasn’t exactly in the talking mood. His postgame press conference was indicative of that and he certainly didn’t [...]

No. 21 Mich State aims to bounce back after loss

Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio hopes his team bounces back from a lopsided loss to Notre Dame just as it did last season. Notre Dame dominated the Spartans last week 20-3, sending them plummeting from No. 10 to No. 21 in The Associated Press poll. The Fighting Irish handed Michigan State a 31-13 setback last year and it responded by winning four straight and eight of nine to...

Michigan State- 23 Eastern Michigan- 7 Rapid Reactions

Wow. That was almost embarrassing. Thank you MSU for the fourth quarter. So, what did we learn? -Dion Sims is the best receiver on the team. He had 6 receptions for 112 yards and a TD. However, the rest of the MSU receivers are not very good. 4 words for them: TOO MANY DROPPED PASSES. -Le’Veon Bell is still really, really good. 36 rushes, 253 yards and 1 TD. Although EMU has a...

Michigan State Vs. Eastern Michigan Preview

This week, Andrew Maxwell and the Michigan State Spartans are taking on the 0-3 Eastern Michigan Eagles at 3:30 PM on Big Ten Network. Last week, in my Notre Dame preview, I stated that one of the keys to the game was the Spartans offensive line. Wow, did I nail that one right on the head. The O-Line collapsed and MSU got crushed. Anyways, on to the game preview. In the Q&A...

Weekly Twitter Mailbag (9/19/12): Andrew Maxwell and Pesky Northwestern

In this week’s Twitter Mailbag, we’ll talk about Andrew Maxwell’s improvements at QB, how good Notre Dame really is, and those pesky Northwestern Wildcats. We’re back after a one week hiatus (we didn’t plan on it being a hiatus, no one asked any questions). Let’s get started. What do you think of Maxwell? And is MSU that bad or Notre Dame that good? (@JB1544) Andrew Maxwell...
