On a night that was supposed to be about two quarterbacks with big shoes to fill, this night belonged to a running back.

While both Michigan State quarterback Andrew Maxwell and Boise State quarterback Joe Southwick appeared to struggle, it was Spartan running back LeVeon' Bell who stole the show.

Bell rumbled over the Broncos' defense to the tune of 210 yards and two TDs by the end of the night, and he also caught six passes for another 55 yards.

The way the game started, it looked like either team had a decent chance to win. Michigan State would jump out to an early 10-3 lead in the first quarter, only to see Boise State score 10 unanswered points in the second quarter to go into the half with a 13-10 lead.

The score would remain tied into the fourth quarter. That is when Bell would shift it into overdrive.

With less than nine minutes left in regulation and the Spartans on the Broncos side of the field, Bell would drill a blitzing Boise State linebacker with a nifty block, allowing Maxwell to complete a pass to tight end Dion Sims inside the 10 yard line.

A couple of plays later, Bell would dart around the left end and deliver a crushing stiff-arm from five yards out for his second touchdown of the night.

Boise State would get the ball with plenty of time for a comeback. After moving the ball to midfield, the Broncos drive would stall, as head coach Chris Petersen's decision to go for it on fourth and 2 would come up short.

The Spartans would then run out the clock on the legs of Bell, who seemed to run over Boise State defenders all night.

Bell's performance should have given at least some Heisman voters pause, even in a conference with athletes such as Montee Ball and Denard Robinson.

For Boise State, the loss more than likely ends any hope they had of being a BCS buster in 2012.
