Via everywhere on the internet, this recruiting note comes from the pen of a Mississippi State coach and was sent to Michael Ferns, a linebacker from Ohio, who recorded this historical document so that all might share in its wonder.  As you can see, there are some, uh, interesting things about this note.  And, because it is a Tuesday in April with nothing better to do, we shall spend way more time than we should pouring over a note that contains three words and what looks to be seven underlines. First, the obvious things: -Either Mississippi State, in a community outreach program, has allowed the children of the Oktibbeha County school system to write some recruiting notes, or a grown-ass person has handwriting worse than me -If it was written by a child, no chance it was written by a Starkville city school child because that is the work of county folk -It's possible it was written by someone holding the pen like 4-year olds do when they're first exposed to the jumbo pencils; no finger involvement, just a fist clenched around the writing instrument -I see some people are referring to this as a letter, which is an offense to letters everywhere; Post-it notes have more words on them than this -There is no doubt it took more time to underline back and forth than it did to compose "you're a BALLER" -Do the kids still use "baller" as much as they used to?  I feel like it peaked a few years ago and something new would have taken its place by now; I hate that word, but I don't have time to come up with something better, so this one's on you, youths of America, you're the ones with all the free time -There's also the Tim Brewster theory floating out there that says he wrote this on his way out of town, more specifically while lifting his futon onto the moving truck -Bold move by Dan Mullen and staff contacting a Michigan commitment (according to Ferns' Twitter profile), as Michigan Men do not appreciate having to continuously recruit after securing a non-binding agreement with a 17-year old who would never change his mind or consider other options no sir not a chance he's ours as long as no one else talks to him -So is the cowbell now State's mascot or is it just reserved for more informal notes?  I'll assume the Bulldog only appears when four or more words are present in the body of the note or letter And now a closer look at a part of the note that has gone unnoticed by the internet this morning.  As you know, have forgotten, or never knew, Mississippi State began referring to itself as "The People's University" a few years ago.  They even hung banners to remind everyone on campus: I noticed something interesting in the art on the cover of the note.  Take a look at just that part and see if anything jumps out at you: Anything that looks familiar with other things belonging to the people?  Maybe this will help shake up the memory processor in your brain: MIGHT AS WELL JUST STAMP THIS ON ALL YOUR RECRUITING PROPAGANDA, YOU COMMIES: Gather up the Wolverines from the Swayze Red Dawn (the ONLY Red Dawn), we've got some foreign invaders on our soil.
