Matt Elam, a 6-foot-5, 360-pound, defensive tackle from John Hardin High School in Elizabethtown is one of the top overall prospects in the state of Kentucky from the 2014 class. Charlie Strong and his staff have been pursuing Elam for quite some time. Although the Cards have always been one of the main schools under consideration, I’m not sure if they’ve ever been considered the favorite. Unfortunately, Louisville’s chances of landing the All American appear to be getting slimmer. Steve Jones of the Courier-Journal was on hand at John Hardin High School on Tuesday afternoon as Elam was recognized in front of his peers for making the Army All American Team. Elam tells Jones that although Louisville is still being considered, they’re not in his top three at the time. As of right now, Elam tells Jones that Alabama, Kentucky and Notre Dame as his three leaders. Louisville, Ohio State and Tennessee are all still in the mix, but they have some work to do if they want to land the five sta...

No drama in Louisville exhibition games these days

So much for Rick Pitino making exhibition basketball games look challenging as he did during his first few seasons at the University of Louisville. So many of them were cliffhangers. He has far too much talent on the floor for that to happen these days if the 115-67 romp over Kentucky Wesleyan is any indication. So many shooters and interchangeable parts, even without Luke Hancock...

Louisville seeks a 3rd straight conference title

Louisville coach Rick Pitino believes the defending national champions have a chance at being a ''mini-dynasty.'' After back-to-back Big East championships, Pitino believes the Cardinals can carry that momentum over to their lone season in the upstart American Athletic Conference. Louisville heads to the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2014. Winning the reorganized...

Pitino Says Behanan Could Be Back In Practice By November

The word spread pretty fast on Thursday evening as Rick Pitino gave an update on Chane Behanan’s suspension while he was in Owensboro, KY., for a book signing. Pitino told a local reporter who was at the book signing that Behanan would be back with the team “in a short period of time.” Just one day his comments had went viral, Pitino spoke with Dana O’Neil of ESPN.com to...

Kevin Ware Is One X-Ray Away From Fully Practicing

GoCards.com During Louisville’s first exhibition game of the season last night against Kentucky Wesleyan, junior guard Kevin ware ran out of the tunnel with the team and participated in warm-ups. Although he hasn’t been fully cleared to play, there didn’t seem to be any noticeable limping or favoring of the broken leg that he suffered in the Elite 8 against Duke last season...

Cards Climb In Week Two BCS Standings

Photo: Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports Despite slightly falling in both the AP and Coaches polls, Charlie Strong and the Louisville Cardinals managed to climb in the second edition of the BCS rankings. Following their convincing win over South Florida on Saturday, the Cards managed to climb from No. 20 to No 19. This obviously isn’t where we had expected and hoped Louisville to be...

Good Luck Defending Louisville’s Back-Court This Year Without Fouling

AP Photo: Timothy D. Easley There were 46 total fouls called last night in Louisville 115-67 exhibition win over Kentucky Wesleyan. We had been warned about how the new rules in college basketball would affect the games, but I don’t think the majority of those who were in attendance at the KFC Yum! Center expected it to be called as tightly as it did. Louisville was already in...
