Coming into this game, Notre Dame gameplan was to contain the dynamic Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson to end a three game losing streak against one their biggest rivals.

No last minute heroics from Robinson. No last second touchdown to give Big Blue the win this year. With the help of backup quarterback Tommy Rees and a vaunted defense, they were able to pull out a dogfight win at home beating the Michigan Wolverines 13-6.

This game had all the remnants of past battles between these two teams but the difference in this game was that the high powered offenses that were so use from Notre Dame and Michigan, was completely shut down by the lack of quarterback play and eight total turnovers between the two teams.

Robinson and the Michigan offense could not get anything going all night due to the surprisingly effective defense that forced one of the best collegiate players in the nation in Robinson to six total turnovers in this game after torching Notre Dame's defense in the past for 948 total yards in the past two games against the Irish. the Irish defense who played brilliantly, was led by captain linebacker Manti Teo who has been playing flawlessly since the untimely death of his grandmother and girlfriend. Teo accounted for two of Robinson's career high four interceptions in this game but Robinson wasn't the only quarterback that didn't play well either.

In a game where quarterback Everett Golson could've made a name for himself by leading the Irish to their first 4-0 start since 2002, he was just as ineffective as Robinson and was pulled from the game after his second interception of the game for backup Tommy Rees. Rees came in just like in the win over Purdue and led the Fighting Irish to the only touchdown of the game and Rees first rushing touchdown of his career in the second quarter.

For the rest of the game, defense dominated the game as both teams offenses sputtered, exchanging field goals in the forth quarter. Notre Dame effectively ran the clock out and never gave the Wolverines a chance for another memorable last drive like in the last three losses to Michigan.

Michigan racked up 299 total yards compared to Notre Dame 239 yards but the big difference in this game was the plus four in turnovers that the Irish defense forced in this Saturday night victory in South Bend. Notre Dame gets a well deserved bye week before they renew a old rivlary with the Miami Hurricanes at Solider Field while Michigan looks to get back on track as they take on Purdue October 6.
