Ole Miss Courting Former Terps QB Danny O’Brien When the news broke that Danny O’Brien requested a transfer from Maryland, nobody was really shocked. What rising star in their right mind would want to continue playing for Randy Edsall after his horrific first season?  O’Brien was the image credit: bloguin.com former ACC rookie of the year under Ralph Friedgen and was borderline irrelevant under Edsall who benched him mid-season.  Now, O’Brien becomes the most coveted “free agent” in college football and some of his suitors may or may not surprise you. At the top of the list is his former offensive coordinator, James Franklin’s improving Vanderbilt squad in the SEC.  O’Brien also wasted no time adding a couple of Big Ten programs into the mix- Wisconsin and Penn State.  After all, Wisconsin ran the Russel Wilson experiment pretty successfully, so why not go after O’Brien? Those programs could make sense for O’Brien, but there’s another SEC suitor in the mix that came out of nowhere.  Our good friend Bruce Feldman of CBS image credit: testudotimes.com Sports is reporting O’Brien has a planned visit with Ole Miss tomorrow.  In addition to O’Brien, his former left tackle and ex-Terp Max Garcia will be joining him.  What is it about Ole Miss that attracts expatriate college football players? It’s like the Belize of College Football Feldmen isn’t the only one reporting the news.  Ole Miss beat writer Yancy Porter also tweeted about the planned visit on Tuesday.  There are well over a dozen teams interested in the former Terp QB, but O’Brien is only going to take “three or four official visits” before deciding which program he’ll attend next month and it very well could be Ole Miss. As for the Rebels, this would be a home run, considering their quarterback play was abysmal last season.  The potential addition of O’Brien would give the Rebels new life and revive a fan base battered by politics.  O’Brien won’t be a one-and-done addition either, as he still has two years of remaining eligibility even though he’ll graduate in the spring.     BeyondU Sports BeyondU Sports - Best College Sports Blog Site
