Oregon State Beavers Lose 1,000 Yard Rusher To Transfer Portal
Craig Strobeck-USA TODAY Sports

The Oregon State Beavers are in a weird position for the 2024 season. The Pac-12 has dissolved and they are one of two teams who were on the outside looking in. They lost their head coach and players want to play for high-profile programs. The Beavers lost a lot of players in the fall and it looks like it will continue in the spring. Running back Damien Martinez announced he is entering the transfer portal.

Oregon State Beavers Lose RB Damien Martinez

Martinez should get a lot of attention in the transfer portal. He was one of the best running backs in the country in 2023. Martinez was a first-team All-Pac-12 selection and was also a semifinalist for the Doak Walker Award. In 2023, Martinez rushed for 1,185 yards which came out to an average of 98.8 yards per game. He found the end zone nine times last season. Fans were hoping he would stay given that he did not transfer in the fall but that did not happen.

2024 Season Outlook

Oregon State and Washington State reached an agreement with the West Coast Conference to play games against their conference. The Beavers also kept in-state rival Oregon on the schedule. While the schedule is definitely full of lesser known teams, they aren’t complete unknowns. The real question is who will be on the field for the Beavers? So much talent has left the program that this could be an interesting season.

What will 2024 bring for the Oregon State Beavers? It really is an unknown. However, they are likely trying to get into another super conference down the road. The college football landscape is changing and I would expect the Beavers to be in a new conference within the next few years.
