COLUMBUS, OH - OCTOBER 9: Carlos Hyde of the Ohio State Buckeyes fumbles the ball near the goal line against the Indiana Hoosiers at Ohio Stadium on October 9, 2010 in Columbus, Ohio. Ohio State defeated Indiana 38-10. (Photo by Jamie Sabau/Getty Images)

Rumors began swirling around Columbus and Buckeye Nation last night that star running back Carlos Hyde may have been involved in an alleged physical assault on a female at a Columbus bar. On Monday morning confirmation of the incident was obtained by Eleven Warriors - a police report naming Hyde as the suspect of an assault with the allegations, which you can see in the above linked story.

According to the sworn report the victim is claiming the following:

Victim stated on listed date and time at the listed location she was assaulted by the described suspect. Victim stated she does not know the suspect but stated she could identify him.

Sylvester Yon-Rambo (likely his blogging name), a beat writer for the Men of the Scarlet and Grey is reporting that not only was Hyde involved, but has at the least been suspended from the team indefinitely.

I am hearing from my sources that Carlos Hyde has been suspended indefinitely and that is why he was not at the meeting this AM.

He was the first to break the story and the entire timeline of who, what, where, when, and why can all be found from his sources here.

This is the same reaction Meyer took when Storm Klein was allegedly involved in a fight last offseason and he was reinstated to the team when no charges were filed. So, the course of action would be at least consistent on Meyer's behalf. Although this incident appears far more serious in nature.

Seriously, who hits a woman? PERIOD. Whether it was Hyde or some other dude, if the allegations are true that's some messed up stuff to say the least. Of course, these are allegations at the moment and while it appears the victim wants to press charges guilt or innocence comes in a court room.

Of course there are those out there already spinning that this team will be fine without Hyde at running back. If he is gone from the team you mean to tell me you're fine with losing a guy who rushed for nearly 1,000 yards and replacing him with a stable of backs who combined to rush for just over HALF of what Hyde ran for alone last season.... If you want to spin yourself that all will be fine in Buckeye nation go for it, but I'm not buying it one bit.

Besides, don't you think the most important part of this whole story is the fact that ALLEGEDLY Hyde hauled off an punched a girl? Perhaps that should be our focus and not what this does to the precious chances of Ohio State winning a Big Ten championship.
