On January 1, 2024, the No. 1 Michigan Wolverines (13-0, Big Ten Champions) and No. 4 Alabama Crimson Tide (12-1, SEC Champions) will square off in the Rose Bowl game, which is a College Football Playoff semi-final matchup this fall. This month, some major Michigan football injury news was announced: it sounds like star defensive back Will Johnson is healing up nicely and should be ready to go against Bama in a few weeks.

Positive Michigan football injury news ahead of Rose Bowl game

Will Johnson left Michigan’s game against Ohio State in the third quarter with an injury — he missed most of the Wolverines’ Big Ten title win over Iowa as well. Heading into the Rose Bowl game against Alabama, getting Will Johnson back is a top priority for Michigan football right now, and it appears that the Wolverines will be getting their wish.

Will Johnson updates his injury status ahead of matchup against Alabama Crimson Tide

Over the weekend, Will Johnson appeared at Blake Corum’s toy drive — which was a massive success on all fronts. There, Johnson reportedly updated his injury status ahead of the College Football Playoff, according to Josh Henschke.

“I feel good. I’ve been running the past few days and everything, so I feel good,” Will Johnson said on Saturday. “… Definitely, in the Big Ten Championship, having a good game last year (against Purdue) and wanting to play again, just got to do what’s best for the team and me in the long run. They held it down.”

On top of the progress that Will Johnson has made thus far, he has exactly three more weeks to continue healing up and getting ready for a crucial Michigan football-Alabama Rose Bowl matchup. Seeing as the winner will advance to the national title game, this is perhaps the biggest game of the Jim Harbaugh era to date — if any Michigan team can win a title, it’s this one.
