Redshirt freshman Ranthony Texada has caught the attention of TCU coaches looking to fill the void left by All-America cornerback Jason Verrett, considered one of the top five cornerbacks in the NFL Draft. Texada, from Frisco Centennial High School, has been using his speed to keep receivers in front of him but, at 5-foot-10, he’ll need to work on defending taller players on jump balls, coach Gary Patterson said. “The biggest thing is, I think people are surprised how well Ranthony is playing,” Patterson said. Spring scrimmage TCU plans a scrimmage April 5 in place of the traditional spring game played by other programs. Patterson said the scrimmage will give recruits a chance to see the program and how it operates, but he’s not sure if the scrimmage will be open to the public. “I watch everyone else’s spring game on TV and break them down,” Patterson said. “Somebody’s not doing it to me.”
