Redshirt freshman quarterback Brett Hundley had an excellent collegiate debut in UCLA’s 49-24 season-opening win over Rice on Thursday. Hundley went 21/28 for 202 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. He also ran for a 72-yard touchdown on his first collegiate play, prompting the following tweet from former Bruins coach Rick Neuheisel: Touchdown for Brett Hundley on his first collegiate play! The recruiting was worth it. — Rick Neuheisel (@CoachNeuheisel) August 30, 2012 Yes, the recruiting certainly was worth it, Rick. Way to take the spotlight away from Hundley for a minute so you can remind fans to thank you for your efforts. I suppose we should also thank you for not realizing Hundley’s talents last year, whereby enabling him to have four more years of eligibility. Who knows? Had you started him last year, maybe you’d still be coaching. H/T LBS contributor Chaz

UCLA freshman QB scores TD on first snap

This is good way to excite the fan base in Los Angeles. UCLA Bruins freshman QB Brett Hundley was off to the races on his very first snap of his collegiate career. A 72-yard touchdown to introduce himself to the nation. Oh, he followed that up with a 36-yard toss and then his first touchdown [...]

Franklin eyeing UCLA's all-time rushing record

While UCLAs 49-24 victory Thursday could be taken with a grain of, well, Rice, it was a good start in Johnathan Franklins attempt to run down Gaston Green. Franklin gained 214 yards, including touchdown runs of 74 and 78 yards. It gave him 2,883 yards rushing in his UCLA career, leaving him 848 short of Greens UCLA record. Franklin is eighth on the Bruins all-time list, 31 yards...

2012 Pac-12 College Football Preview: UCLA Bruins

And, now, it’s Jim Mora’s turn. He’ll take his place in the uninspiring lineup of Bob Toledo, Karl Dorrell and Rick Neuheisel atop the UCLA football program, hoping he will be the one capable of returning the Bruins to the Rose Bowl for the first time in 14 years and the one who actually wins one for the first time since the 1984 Classic. Mora will try to establish the...

'Unflappable' Hundley has impressive debut

Early in UCLA's fall camp, quarterback Brett Hundley was described by his coach as "unflappable." While it's easy to remain calm and collected in the low-pressure atmosphere of Cal State San Bernardino, the red-shirt freshman had yet to take a snap in a collegiate game. Thursday night in UCLA's season-opener against Rice, Hundley took that first snap and made...

Rick Neuheisel believes the only reason the SEC is considered the best conference is because ESPN talks them up

You can always tell when Rick Neuheisel is feeling good about himself because that’s when you hear from him. When he was Pete Carroll’s whipping boy, you never heard from him. But the moment that Carroll left for Seattle, he was yapping about how the city of Los Angeles now belonged to UCLA. Of course, things didn’t quite work out that way and Neuheisel was canned by UCLA....
