Alabama heads into spring practice without a top tailback and receiver. Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban said Tuesday that tailback Eddie Lacy will miss the spring while recovering from surgery for turf toe that plagued him much of last season. He says wide receiver Duron Carter remains suspended going into practices which start Friday before the defending national champions leave for spring break. Saban also says offensive lineman Arie Kouandjio is out for the spring while recovering from knee surgery. Carter's fellow receivers Michael Bowman and Ronald Carswell also are suspended. Saban didn't elaborate on the reasons or when the players might be allowed back. Carter, a junior college transfer, had to sit out last season and didn't practice with the Tide leading up to the national championship game.
